And just to the right is the Drive In Theatre with the giant ass car
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

My favorite, this one is pretty cool comparing to the last ones. Illumination Theory, perhaps?

That one pigeon in the top right section - the colours look really off ???

If it is for illumination theory - maybe that one pigeon is being lit up by the old woman with the majestic bag.

I think it's a Catholic style halo. Like this:

So probably for Illumination Theory.

The big pigeon in the lower left section looks like it's been sucked out of existence by a conveniently placed black hole :D

And I agree with Kotowboy, the bird in the top right doesn't fit color wise.

I don't know about anyone else, but this time around I'm glad we're getting artwork snippets that can be coalesced into full pictures instead of song snippets (unless those are coming in early September?) I really want to listen to this album unspoiled, as it were. I have an idea of the sound of the album with TEI... That's all I need until the album comes out. I know if audio snippets are released I won't be able to resist.

The website said this album has a 28 page booklet, which is pretty thick. With 9 tracks, and only 7 that need lyrics printed, there might be pages of just artwork  :tup

Well, maybe 8, if they need a 2 page spread for IT lyrics. It is a longer song, after all.

As there are several DT fans who bitch about everything, we're probably get some OMG WHY DO THEY SHOW POVERTY PORNOY WOULDN'T LET THAT HAPPEN DURM GOD.

That's one cool piece of art, though. Nevertheless, I think I've seen hundreds of cooler DT fan arts on the internet and although it's very unlikely, I'd love the idea of this being the last Hugh Syme Dream Theater album.

While I enjoy Hugh Syme's art, it is true that I've seen some really awesome, really impressive stuff from DT fans. I think for their next album, it would be really cool if DT held a competition for graphic artists to design their album art, including the cover and the booklet, based on the song titles alone. And then they can choose winners and have that be the booklet art. And that way, they can have multiple winners too, if someone designs the best cover, they use that cover. If someone designs the best or most suitable art for a given song, they'll choose that. And maybe hand out some kind of award to the winners.

I think the words to best describe that idea are "Pandoras Box"

Can you imagine the legalities of that and having to verify that they didn't use any copywritten imagery on top of the typical fan bitching that happens.

You are right though that there has been some cool stuff and it would be cool if it worked out like you described

So LaBrie would like to play Trial of Tears, Scarred, Blind Faith, Take the Time and Octavarium, huh?  :eek

Those are like all in my top 10, besides Blind Faith.

I say we let LaBrie choose the sets from here on out!

Honestly, DT needs to get better art-work than this. I feel like they could have gotten a very talented student at a prestigious art school to design something far better than an old gypsy woman feeding pigeons and a picture of a kid playing in the sand at the Jersey Shore with an empty billboard in the background.

Yeah, I think it's been posted. Pretty good interview.

It sounds like he's insinuating that DT is trying to move back to where they started and be a little bit more sonically diverse and more progressive.  I'd love it if they did that.

ADTOE moves in that direction, but not very much.  I'd say it's only 25% of the way there.  I don't think it's really a ton different from SC and BCSL.  ADTOE was still too heavy for me.  Their release of The Enemy Inside, though, suggests more of the same sound, so I'm not sure what will actually happen.  I'd like to hear a sound more reminiscent of the last 3 tracks of Awake.  I might be in the minority here on that one, though.

You honestly don't think ADToE is that different from SC or BCSL? SC in particular sounds NOTHING, zero, zilch, nada like ADToE. And I fail to see how TEI bears any resemblance to any song on ADToE except BMU....at all.

Well, maybe the details need to be thought out a little more, my point is there are a lot of talented artists on the net, and I think fans would appreciate the idea that DT is getting them involved in the actual album. I think something like that would be a great move for publicity.

I said it's different, but not that different.

TEI is still a "balls to the wall," mostly palm-muted guitar driven kind of sound.  I think it's a really well-put together kind of song, and I don't mind when DT does this.  I think TOT was a very good album.  I'd just like to see more sonic diversity, like on Awake.
