Last time they played it, they omitted a section of the song (If there's a pensive fear...) for the whole tour.

Was it a part of a medley? Or did they flow into another song with it? Because I'm pretty sure that would've been a Portnooy thing, since JP said he didn't like the idea of fans listening to a song and not hearing their favorite parts of it.

It was the whole song, minus the verse with the really high vocals.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

No, they just skipped that section, like they did with Voices as well. It was supposedly to save JLB's voice, but I'm sure he's on record somewhere saying that he didn't actually mind. I suspect it was an MP decision, but I can't be certain.

Well, if he didn't mind, then I'm sure if they were to do it again, he'd fight to keep it.

As far as I know he voiced his mild disliking for New Millennium. Not sure about the others, but I think he may feel similarly to most of the fans with regard of which songs are good on FII.

I can see a lot of references to this interview. James talks about cutting the difficult sections, as well as New millennium being one of his lesser favorites.

Edit: I incorrectly remembered James's statements.  In one of the previous interviews posted he mentions cutting the sections from the songs so no need for my faulty recollection.

FYI, I love the pseudo sarcastic Canadian attitude James exhibits when he's annoyed.

You might have seen something that I haven't, but I recall saying that he felt that New Millennium wasn't received well live. This was when he was asked about songs he doesn't like to perform as much as others, and I'm pretty sure he mentioned that he likes to perform all of the songs.

I don't get it, this emoticon doesn't appear for me. All I see is ":marria" in a little box, with the "a" partially cut off.

I remember JLB saying that he couldn't connect with the lyrics or the melodies at all, in the "resurfacing" interview if I remember correctly.

Ok... Been away for a while. I get back and people seem to think I see a concept in the artwork. For the record.... I DON'T. Nor am I wishing this was a concept. It's not. However, with the last three releases from RR, the artwork has had some connection with the songs. For example: on ADTOE, the artwork on which the lyrics to Bridges in the Sky (aka The Shaman's Trance) was a dreamcatcher, commonly associated with native american shamanism. I can fully understand that connection. An example from BC&SL: The Shattered Fortress' lyrics were superimposed over a shattered bottle, indicating that it was part of the AA suite. The artwork that went with the lyrics for Prophets of War was ants carrying a bullet... All I'm saying is that, at this point, I can't connect the artwork to any of the songs on DT12. Should be interesting to see what song goes with which piece of artwork we've seen.

Syme has done that before with the picture for a song in the booklet for Rush.  It makes sense.

Don't know if this has already been posted, but there are some snippets out for some of the songs. Apparently they come from the studio. Does anyone know if these are at all trustworthy? Seems weird that Dream Theater themselves haven't mentioned them on facebook or twitter as they normally do with releases like these.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
