I think it's just a general idea, really.
Prog was never seen as an accessible thing, and when it started to be a bit more accessible, people started to not like that for some reason. The truth is: it has been accessible and commercial for a really long time. Pink Floyd and Phil Collins' Genesis is an example.

I think one of the main reasons why 8VM is my second favourite DT album is that it's more accessible than most others. The tracklist and reviews for DT12 hint at that direction as well, so I'm happy :D

I'm really confused. Maybe it's because I'm a really new DT fan, but why is them having a more commercial song such a bad thing? I generally have enjoyed their commercial songs, right next to the super proggy/less accessible ones.

Also can't understand it. FII has aged much better than some proggier/heavier albums.

And Nescafe tastes like shit IMO ;)

Agreed, I simply selected the brand for being well known throughout the world. I highly doubt someone outside of Austria would know Maresi Eis Cafι Vanilla Cream.

Yeah, let's just steer this SLOWLY back on topic  :lol

By all means. Though I feel coffee is never off topic. Same as bacon. ;D

At least this time I won't have to listen to a new single alone. Usually I have my flat for myself, but I currently have a friend as a pet roomie. She's also a DT fan and has been to two DT concerts with me so far, the next one coming up in January 2014. She even has an uncle who resembles JLB a little so whenever she talks about James she refers to him as "Uncle LaBrie".

So this time I'll need two ice coffees from my fridge before blasting the new single through my speakers. :tup

Greetings...

One of my best friends and I are gonna listen to it at the same time and gush over Facebook to each other. Or complain. There will definitely be discussion at any rate.

I invited my best friend to come to my house so we could listen to the single together and have a very civilized discussion, but unfortunately he couldn't come over so we'll just have to do the discussion via Skype  :'(

Aw man that would have been the best idea ever. Sadly I'm actually at work so that isn't even an option. :/

The only thing I'm disappointed about is that we didn't get any concrete preorder info. I believe we got that with OtBoA. I'm sure we will get it soon.

It's hilarious how dead this thread is right now  :lol

I very much wish we got pre-order information.  North American tour info would be dandy, too.

Not sure if this has been said already in the single thread, but this kinda confirms the 'alleged' track lengths. On usatoday The Enemy Inside is 6:17. I think that would have been too much of a coincidence if someone had just guessed that. So I guess we can pretty much treat the following as fact:

1. False Awakening Suite – 2:42
2. The Enemy Inside – 6:17
3. The Looking Glass – 4:53
4. Enigma Machine – 6:01
5. The Bigger Picture – 7:40
6. Behind The Veil – 6:52
7. Surrender To Reason – 6:34
8. Along For The Ride – 4:45
9. Illumination Theory – 22:17

TEI is a good, but nothing spectacular single. However, it is probably a good song to release on a site like USA Today for exposure. Considering this album is full of 4-7 minute songs, it appears we'll be presented with an abundance of songs in the standard verse-chorus-bridge structure. Nothing inherently wrong with it, but I fear the album may be a bit samey for a DT release. Still holding out hope for it to exceed my now temepered expectations. There's always something I find special or amazing on every release, so I don't think this will be any different.

I get the feeling I'll be repeating IT tons and tons more than anything else from the album, with all those short track lengths. If most of the songs really are just the standard ABABCB form, it'll get really boring really quickly for me. :/ Sorry if anyone disagrees, that's fine. It's just that I was introduced to DT when I had no theory training, and grew to love them more and more as I started taking theory courses for my music degree. Now that I've taken all my theory courses, if this album is more commercial (structure and form-wise, that is) I will be very sad. I love me the occasional standard form song on other albums where it's not the norm, but a whole album of that may very well displease me a bit, unless the bridges/instrumental breaks are KILLER in every single way possible (hint: they won't all be, lol).

Blahhhhh I hate to be spewing so much criticism after hearing the new single but I can't help it!

When I first saw the track list I predicted that The Enemy Inside would be the single and that it would be heavy. This came through and I really hope that my other prediction will as well; I also thought that this would be my least favorite track on the album and if this is truly how it plays out it's going to be an amazing album in my book (quite possibly top 3).

I guess it's more likely that the last 3 minutes are a hidden track (the "easter egg").
