I'm very interested in seeing what the lyrics are about for this one...  :justjen

It's about the enemy inside, so the options are-
Childbirth
Chest burster
Parasites

I'm thinking it's about schizophrenia.

With all due respect Zydar, I'm pretty sure my options are much more likely.

Yeah? Well... You.... You're from Australia.

 :lol :lol :lol :lol

I'm thinking about The Dark Passanger.

I'm thinking it's about schizophrenia.

The only reason why I don't think it's about that is because they've already covered the subject on SDOIT.

I say the song is about that part of us that lives according to our fears and instinctual desires, without concern for our true selves or for others.

I don't see DT going as deep with the lyrics as Maynard or something, so I think this is just about a negative part of oneself. Maybe the part of us that keeps us away from... illumination.

Honestly, we can speculate the metaphor behind it all we want. But I'm hoping it's a fantasy song about being possessed by a demon.  :xbones

This isn't the first time JP has written lyrics about inner conflicts. Scarred, Panic Attack and ITPOE all have that theme to some extent. I bet Enemy Inside will be similar.

Are we allowed to talk about things that happen on FiveEight forum?  I've just been reading the DT thread and its full of trolls spewing bile about how shit the band is.  I was shocked to see that Noxon seems to be one of the ringleaders.

Am I missing something here?  Is it a different Noxon (my apologies if so)?

When you think of it, the 3 are about the same thing :  the child inside the womb is a parasite feeding on his/her mother's body and bursting the womb when being born. Gnark gnark gnark!!! :xbones

And really bad attitudes are common throughout the internet. I commonly forget that because I'm spoiled by the amazing community here at DTF. :tup

I find all reviews, positive and negetive, to be useful as long as you can identify biases and their context.

Don't expect every one there to love the band or all of their output, especially from the past decade.  Also you can't take everything there serious. It's an entertainment forum, not a serious discussion forum.

Noxon has not been that negative toward the band (he is definitely not the "ring leader" ::)), and his reviews are generally neutral and objective.

I seem to recall reading a post from noxon here saying that he just messes around on 5/8, stirring the pot.  So I would say it might be wise to take anything you read from him on that forum with a grain of salt.

I'd say it would be wiser to just ignore that place altogether.

I said it before, and I'll say it again; what goes on other places has nothing to do with this forum, and I don't break any rules on this forum. Whatever I say elsewhere has to be taken in the context of what that place is - 5/8 is not a serious forum, and you have to take it for what it is. I'd appreciate it if you leave the two things separate. As BlobVanDam says - it's better if you just forget that place exists...

I've been a member of both forums since the first pre-release review I've written, and it has not affected my writing in the least any of the times.

Beside, since when has my review had any credibility anyways? :P I'm a person, a fan, and it's all subjective opinion anyways - and none of you guys really know me or what I like anyway...

Do you really think I would write a 6000 word review if I was just joking about it? :P

Thanks guys, think I'll give it a wide berth in future.  I just found the place when hunting for impressions from the listening party (as we're not allowed to discuss "unofficial" reviews here  ::)).  For what it's worth, I thought 5/8 was a serious forum about prog bands.  Kinda like a more encompassing DTF.

Unclejman - I know not everyone shares the same musical tastes, that's a given.   I was commenting on the Noxon thing.

I can understand a forum designed just for entertainment purposes, but seriously? I just spent 5 minutes there. I imagine the average age on that forum is somewhere just north of 12 years old.

No thank you. I take this band very seriously, even though I have fun listening and joking around about some aspects, I respect their abilities as far greater musicians than I could ever dream of being. The amount of immaturity on 5/8 is really disappointing.

Different strokes for different folks. :dunno:
Everything is immaterial. Do you know that reality is immaterial? This is not reality.
In what friggin' universe is a 68 minute long album "short"?

Totally this^

I need to start devising a way to listen to the "single" tomorrow while at work.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
