Been really into Septicflesh recently.  Something about the symphonic aspects of the music create a weird but awesome atmosphere.  Been listening to Sumerian Daemons and Communion  :metal
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

This is the most incredibly ridiculous thing I've heard in such a long time. I may well have a new contender for favorite album ever.

Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Anybody else heard the new Behemoth song "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" yet?
Sounds awesome, and the new album The Satanist drops February 4th!

Have a touch of old school Black Metal. I like it!  :metal

New Arch Enemy song with Alissa from The Agonist on vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InRMwptcgAo

She definitely sounds good in this song, but not quite as good as Angela. Overall the song's not the best AE have done but it's definitely decent. Looking forward to the new album.

If you ask me, she's light years better than Angela. Angela has never sounded good because her vocals are layered like a million fucking times and it gives off this cheap aux effect. I respect her in that she was one of the first women to make it big in an extreme metal band, but her vocals have never ever been anything to write home about.

Wooh had no idea Angela had left. Pretty good though. Always awesome to see a bad ass female vocalist.  :metal

I lost interest in AE a long time ago,  all all sounds so one dimensional & so formulated.  Just really dull and uninteresting.

Once a year I always found myself feeling like listen to some Dimmu Borgir. So I spun up Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia today. I still remember the first time I heard this album, never heard anything as epic and dark. It's not like Dimmu Borgir was more extreme or certainly more black metal then any other band. It was more the perfect combination of Extreme Metal with a symphony orchestra. It just hit the right spot for me. Blast this album

There's just something about their lyrics that I find poetic. Here's a part from Blessings Upon The Throne Of Tyranny:

Condemnation of life by the living dead
What a premature judgement, contradiction to the core
How unfortunate I am, cursed to spend time on a battle already won
The shame that will be guarding your grave says it all
Retreat to the crypt and make it worthwhile
Recall my sins furthermore but still be watching yours with a smile

If you like this band or anything, you should support them in any way you can right now since all their stuff pretty much got stolen right at the start of a tour for them.

Really sucked to hear what happened to them. I'll probably throw some money in when I get some more. Shit like this shouldn't happen, especially to such a great band.

I agree so I'm just deciding on what to buy from them. Hate to see this happen to anybody really.

I figure this might be the only thread with any chance; anyone else going to Maryland Deathfest next week? I'm getting really excited, for me its the best lineup they've ever had. Still can't believe I'm gonna get to see Dark Angel!

I just wanna highlight the french tech metal band Scarve. Very underrated imo and kind of sad that Dirk Verbeuren have no time anymore for the band.

Scarve - Irradiant is a good start.

Brief update on what I've been digging lately:

Anybody else heard the new Morbus Chron or Dead Congregation albums? So far they're my favorite death metal albums of the year. (I would count the new Triptykon but I'm not sure that qualifies.) The Morbus Chron one is a pretty trippy, left-of-field experience and probably one of the most unique death metal albums I've heard. The Dead Congregation one is just raw, punishing old school DM with killer riffs.

Also gave that Artificial Brain album that everyone's been talking about a listen. It was pretty cool but I still have to get into it some more. The vocals are awesome though. Definitely give it a spin if you're into Gorguts, Ulcerate, Portal etc.

Finally, in the black metal world I'm super excited for the new Saor album. It's like a folk version of Summoning with tons of epic, beautiful atmosphere.

That Morbus Chron album is pretty good. It sounds excellent and it has some really good songs and a couple of unmemorable ones as well. Probably not consistent enough to make my top albums of the year, but a good release.

I listened to one Artificial Brain song and that was enough. I could not take those vocals seriously at all. They just sounded so ridiculous. I have the exact same problem with Inquisition and Demilich which is too bad, as all three have some pretty good music but the vocals are just... so hard to listen to.

Yeah, they're certainly not for everyone but I think in the case of Artificial Brain they really complement the music and give it an almost otherwordly feel if that makes sense. The kind of DM vocals I really can't stand are the brutal/slam bands who use inhales and what not (i.e. Wormed).

Finally getting into Atheist. I'm already a fan of a lot of tech-death bands, but Atheist's musicianship is just incredible. Awesome riffs and unreal drumming. Also heard they're coming out with a new album next year. Can't wait! :metal

RIP Exodus.
I'll love Gary Holt until the day I die, but giving the boot to Rob Dukes in favor for fucking Souza who'll probably quit after an album anyways is the biggest mistake Exodus could have made. Rob Dukes added venom and malice to Holt's razor sharp riffage, and was the perfect fit for the band. I'll still pick up their next album but Souza was always my least favorite vocalist of theirs by a long shot.  :(

This is hitting me pretty hard guys, just a few months ago Holt had said that "Dukes is our guy. Period." after some interviewer asked about reuniting with Zetro. Jamming the 3 albums Dukes did with Exodus now (not counting the rerecording of Bonded By Blood). Dear god I'm going to miss him, absolutely killer material.

Gary Holt wrote these lyrics, but only Rob Dukes can deliver them with justice.

"You speak to the sky and no one answers back
And yet you wager the word of God is fact
The horrors we imagine in vivid clarity
Become a spectacle, your God’s atrocities
A mirror image, reflection of your soul
Just nature’s play, all her children have a role
God’s an actor, the world nature’s stage
Our fates are scripted like so many
letters on a page"

Zetro's just going to sound so fucking whiny.

New Septic Flesh is quite good even if it doesn't stand up to their last two records.
