The Extreme Metal Thread
« on: July 02, 2013, 09:28:52 AM »
I couldn't find a thread dedicated to any form of extreme music like Black Metal, Doom Metal, Speed Metal and so on...so I thought why not just create a common thread where we can discuss news and stuff about the extreme side of Metal. Now there are so many sub genres out there so I think i'll just call it "Extreme Metal" to keep it simple, i'm not gonna debate on what classifies as "extreme metal" and I would also like this thread not become a single debate about that either......i'll leave that up to the listener and his definition!  :)

Some of my favourite bands that "I" would atleast put in this folder:

Dimmu Borgir
Behemoth
Decapitated
Vader
Nile
Divine Heresy
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Keep Of Kalessin
Shining
Necrophagist
Satyricon
Meshuggah
Bloodbath
Morbid Angel

and many more....

I'm pretty excited for what Behemoth is gonna put out with their upcoming album and speaking of....here's drummer Krimh doing session work for Behemoth:

We had a death metal, black metal, and thrash metal thread floating around at some point. They kind of flounder from time to time, but they're definitely out there.

Anyway, yeah. Extreme metal FTW.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I would say most of the metal I listen to would qualify as "Extreme Metal", though some are more extreme than others. To me, if I want metal, I mostly go for the heavier styles.

I guess bands like: Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Dir En Grey, Between the Buried and Me (if they even count) and Loma Prieta for example.

Great picks though!  :metal I guess you could try Decapitated, kind of a mix...not really but their new drummer kicks some major butt!  :lol

You could also check out Bloodbath feat. Katatonia and Opeth members:

Speaking of Meshuggah, check out Scarve:

You get extra point if you figure out the beat at the beginning!  :lol

The new Deeds of Flesh record is absolutely insane.

I need to get on that, I loved their last one.

I go through periodic death metal phases where that's ALL I listen to for weeks, and then it hibernates for about a year or so. Only exceptions being Nile (though I was less than fond of their last album) and Obscura, which get played all the time. In fact, I'm about due to get into death metal again fairly soon.

The new Converge and Dillinger Escape Plan LP's are absolutely awesome. And Deafheaven's album Sunbather is the best black metal I've heard in years. Pretty awesome year for metal in general.

I don't know if I'd call it Black Metal...maybe Blackened shoegaze or something, but it is definitely awesome.

Been listening to Rivers of Nihil's single "Raineater"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4Eya-2JfoU

Probably one of my most anticipated albums of the year, the guys in the band are all pretty rad guys, so I hope they find success!

Also I've been spinning Desecravity as of late, such a fresh breath of death metal.

+1 for Meshuggah and Bloodbath. Decapitated too. I've enjoyed Meshuggah for a while now, and I saw Decapitated open for them last year in Chicago. They were very tight live, and Krimh was great live. He's a monster of a drummer.

Figured this would be the appropriate thread. I recently discovered Fleshgod Apocalypse after seeing them open for Wintersun and I have been listening their new album Labyrinth and their last one, Agony, pretty much nonstop the last few days. I highly recommend them.  :metal

The new Oathbreaker is quite stunning, and I didn't expect the black metal sound from the band, based on their past work, but it's a very welcome and great change. Get this band on a US tour with Deafheavean ASAP somebody.

EDIT: Also, the thread I started for them totally died out, but if you guys could give this a listen, it's seriously some of the best new technical death metal you'll hear, and these guys(Rivers of Nihil) hopefully hit it big with their debut coming up!  :metal

They've come quite a ways, especially their vocalist! I've always liked his vocals, but he's gotten so much better at pronunciation and that really helps I think, that and they're starting to utilize their bassist's high pitched howls which creates such an awesome dynamic between the two. Their album is one of my most anticipated of the year, the material I've heard and seeing some it live just sealed the deal, and it doesn't hurt that they're all completely radular dudes.

So has anyone heard of Equilibrium from Germany? They're one of the best folk metal bands imo.

Here's an awesome song from their new EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjKJlKQ50wE
