The Album Art thread V. decorate my wall...
« on: June 18, 2013, 06:09:02 PM »
I am doing a little brightening up of my abode, and one wall is going to have a selection of framed LPs. I am looking for 9 to 12 LP covers to do it with. While I have my own ideas of what I want, I thought I would see what you guys had for suggestions.

Right now I am commited to....

(cause I already own it :p )

And for the pure aesthetics of it, this one...

So as you can see, I'm not just looking for the most intense, awesome covers, otherwise I'd just do all Roger Dean stuff. I want a good variety, in both color and style. Music wise, I'd like to stick to my general genres, rock/metal/prog. I will be buying these at a local store that has a monstrous selection of LPs.

Thanks in advance  :)

I would suggest some Moody Blues.  While I prefer the cover art to Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Days of Future Passed is also a cool one.

I was taking a hard look at the Moody Blues stuff, I'm pretty sure one will make it onto the wall. (probably the Every Good Boy one, that's just  brilliant)

Nice ones Dark Castle. The top one is Baroness, right?

I really love Radiohead's King of Limbs artwork. Pretty and haunting.

I couldn't find one without the text, but this one does it for me as well.

and in the vein of what DC posted...one of my favorites..pretty sure he's posted this as well at some point.

DTP says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GREAT POST"

Not sure how you feel about P!ATD, but I've always liked the cover art of Pretty. Odd. And I bought it today.  :lol

Oooh, Fear of a Blank Planet would be a good one.

So I just got back from the record store, and the additions are the Kinks one posted above, the Moody Blues one(thanks for the reminder Carl  :tup ). I didn't find any of the Baroness or other ones posted, but I did find these two....

Always loved this cover...

And this one, don't know if it's going on the wall, but for seven bucks, I couldn't resist...

I take it you want ones you will actually find the vinyl of?  These would be cool, but not likely to find the vinyl at your usual spot (if at all).

I thought about doing something similar a few years ago. Except, I thought of using one gigantic frame (something like 2A0 or 4A0 if I could find it) and putting as many CD covers into it as I would be able to fit. Kind of like a big framed collage of albums that I like. I'll probably never get around to doing it, though.

Scale the Summit's new album has some of the best art I've seen in a while.

It's pretty good, not really what I'm thinking of. (the album itself however is lights fucking out awesome)

I can totally see that being cool. I like the vinyl covers myself cause the art shows up better and most of the albums I'm picking up are under 5 bucks.

Well you gotta have some Yes, like Topographic Oceans, Relayer and Fragile.

Basically anything by Roger Dean :P

Three that I really, really like artwork-wise, though I don't know if they'd be up your alley musically (actually, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't dig the second one, but stranger things have happened, and it IS an awesome artwork).

I was lookin at Kiss Destroyer, I'm thinking one cheesy heavy metal one. Rainbow Rising might have won that spot.

About to head to a local store that carries the if sheet music, see if there is something along those lines I could add.

Nothing cheesy about Rainbow Rising. Ritchie invented power metal with that album.

If I were doing this, here's two that I'd pick.

"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are God. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God.” — Christopher Hitchens

One of Jimi's will definitaly be up there. As to ELP, I though about that one, but I don't want to overload it with old school prog, Marillion has two spots and Yes-Tales will be taking one.

Just picked up a book of Yes and Rush guitar tabs for twelve bucks. :tup
