Classic Rock Vocal Showdown #12: Anderson vs Gilmour
« on: May 23, 2013, 06:08:05 AM »
So, after the quasi joke of the last pairing, let's move on to a couple of vocal heavy-weights.  Are there any bigger 70s prog bands than Yes or Pink Floyd?  Alright, a couple others come to mind, but these are without a doubt two of the top five.  Gilmour may have had to share the mic with Waters, but that doesn't make him any less of a vocalist.  This is tough, because while I'm not a massive 70s Yes fan, I recognize the talent in Anderson - no one could hit the sustained high notes like he could.

However, I'm going with Gilmour - I just get a sense of a tighter emotional connection between vocals and lyrics.

Will this be close, or a landslide?  I'm guessing the former, but what do I know... so far the results have been pretty inconsistent from pairings I've chosen (5 close ones; 6 landslides)
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I'd go with Gilmour easily. Jon Anderson is the reason that I cannot listen to Yes.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Jon Anderson, easily - one of my favorite singers of all time, so great in portraying lyrics and being emotive.

Gilmour, on the other side... I sometimes forget he also sings in Pink Floyd. I mean, I love his guitar work, I love the lyrics in Pink Floyd songs, but I never got carried away or impressed by his vocal delivery. When Roger Water sings, on the other hand, I get chills, because he can really make the words come alive.

This is impossible to pick.  Anderson, with his angelic voice, is probably the better singer technically, but both guys have so much character in their delivery, that I love 'em both, and I cannot pick a winner.

I prefer Gilmour by a considerable margin, but Anderson is definitely the better singer.

I like them both quite a bit, but had to vote for Jon because he's amazing, while David is merely great.

Anderson's technically the better singer, but Gilmour wins because of his delivery, which in a lot of ways is like his guitar playing. He does what the song needs and gets out.  :lol

I love Gilmour, but I had to go with Anderson. He's one of my favorite singers. His voice is unique and perfect for the music, while Gilmour, as great as he is, doesn't impress me as much.
