Classic Rock Vocal Showdown #11: Garcia vs Davies

Wish I could see RJ's look as he has a stroke right now, pitting the singers from two of his favorite bands of all time against each other.
This one is just for you buddy  .  I wasn't much of a fan of either to tell you the truth, but if I had to chose one, I'd go with Ray and his raspiness.

On vocal abilities, it's Davies by a landslide. If you were gonna pit Bob Weir from the Dead against Ray, than it would be a closer match, but Jerry Berry, though having one of the most memorable voices around, is a bit limited.

I got a feeling this is gonna be another landslide. Ray Davies, man. "Limited" is a good description for Jerry Garcia as a singer. Bob Weir would've been a fairer fight.

This might be the first shut out actually, there is only a small handfull of hardcore deadheads here, and I don't think any of them did enough acid to put Jerry above Davies.

Yeah, I'm trying to get some of the lesser known (and talented?) vocalists out of the way.  Got a handful that will be very difficult voting (I think) coming up.  In all actuality, this one was just have a little fun with the chef.

I will go on record as saying that maybe with the exception of Fish and Ozzy, Ray Davies is the best front man out there, nobody gets a crowd rolling like he does. He owns audiences.

I wasn't even sure who Ray Davies was, but I still voted for him over Garcia.

I went with Jerry.  I'm not a huge Kinks fan and while Ray has a better voice, something about it and his style in general just bugs me.  I like The Dead better.  I know Jerry doesn't sing everything for The Dead, but I don't know enough about them to know who sings what.  Still, they don't bug me the way The Kinks do, so Jerry wins.
