I Love The Prestige and Inception.

I love it when he goes a bit sci - fi - so the odds are good that Interstellar - his first proper full sci fi out next year will be awesome.

As far as his Batman movies - I love them all but I enjoy Rises the most.

And the Hans Zimmer scores for his Batman Trilogy & Inception are both fantastic.

Insomnia is the one film of his that I have yet to see.

I imagine TDK will win this pretty easily.

But for me, Memento is easily my favorite. And of the ones I've seen, I would rank:

Memento

TDK
Begins
TDKR

Inception

Prestige

Inception.

Not many movies are 100% written from scratch these days that are just brilliant on all levels. This is one rollercoaster of a film, with so much packed into 2 hours and 20 minutes.

I haven't seen all of these, so I won't actually vote in the poll, but the best I've seen is The Dark Knight followed by Inception.

I've said this before - but all of his films have a certain "mechanical" feel to them. I don't mean that in a bad way at all.

I mean like they're actual working films that have this weird creepy vibe throughout. I don't even know what it is.

But every time I see a new Chris Nolan film - I get the same feel from it.

That kind of other-worldly feel. perhaps the right word is "precision". Like there's a lot going on and every scene is meticulously planned out.

Will be interesting to see how Interstellar looks now that Wally Pfister has gone on to make his own movies.

I'd love Chris to get Roger Deakins as his new DP. Skyfall looked stunning.

+ Just looked up Roger Deakins filmography and he's worked with The Coen Bros an awful lot and their films are always sumptuous too.

Would have be a great pairing.

The Dark Knight. It's just an incredible film. I've never seen a superhero film so dark and so twisting.

Inception is only average to me. Never really understood the hype.

Inception, even though he ripped off Ducktales!

That's not to say I don't love the others, I just really enjoy Inception.

Inception is an important film because it shows that films which aren't reboots or remakes or $250m action blockbusters with absolutely no plot at all can still make $800m back and not treat it's audience like they're idiots.

This'll be hard because I haven't seen some of these films in a while:

The Dark Knight
Memento
The Prestige
Inception
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight Rises

I've seen Insomnia, but that was a while ago and I can't remember much about it. I'd have to watch it again. I keep putting off watching Following. It's just sitting in my Netflix queue staring at me.

The Dark Knight is not a perfect movie, but it's Nolan's most realized one. A good/great film is one in which you're able to overlook it's flaws because, in the end, they just don't matter that much when you get right down to it.

Memento I haven't watched in a long time, but I really liked it and certain scenes still stick with me to this day. I love most of The Prestige but the twist brings it down a couple of steps.

Inception was pretty good, though I feel that it was way too long and the Bond-esque sequence at the snow fortress went on waaaaay too long. The movie felt like it could've been trimmed a bit more as if Nolan made a long film because... Nolan makes long films. I also have had absolutely no desire to watch this again since I saw it in the theater. I feel as if I've gotten everything out of this movie that is there to get.

Batman Begins is about even with TDKR. The first half is awesome, but when the actual plot kicks in, I just lose interest.

The Dark Knight Rises is overlong, with some incredibly dumb moments. I did appreciate it a lot more on a second watching though.

I never got "the twist" in The Prestige because I went along with the whole - Tesla built a replicating machine plot.

When it was 'revealed' that he was in fact dying on stage every night - I was like - yeah, and ?

Unless the twist was that Christian Bale's character was twins - that was ok i guess :)

Yeah, this was the twist I was talking about. So idiotic.

The other one wasn't really a twist, it's pretty obvious to anyone watching the film what's going on.

Because I've read a few theories online that the machine did nothing and Tesla was ripping him off.

I was expecting some big reveal where the machine actually does nothing and you're just hearing one side of the story.

The big question is - how you decide which twin gets to live at the end ? Was it someones "turn" to be the magician the day he got arrested ?

I think if that was true, it'd be much more apparent in the film. If David Bowie was just ripping him off, wouldn't Wolverine's magic simply fail?

I think this is a case of people desperately digging too deep where there's little to no dirt at all. :)

Yes Memento is incredible. And I found The Prestige to be convoluted. It's trying too hard, for my liking.

So - in a nutshell - teddy is assigned to Leonard but Leonard won't accept that his wife is still alive and invented Sammy Jenkis.

Meanwhile - Natalie finds out about his condition and pretends to help him so he will get rid of Dodd, a drug dealer.

Jimmy Grants was Natalie's Boyfriend. Jimmy & Dodd were drug dealers and Natalie was involved??

It's hard to put it all together when watching it in reverse, ha. But yeah I get the point.

It's in reverse so you experience the film as Leonard would.

Memento * I was so amazed by this film, I rented it and I think I watched it 3 times during my 5 day rental. I dislike when people (like Mrs. Cool Chris) think of it as the movie that plays backwards, because if that is all you got out of it, you missed the point.

Batman movies * grouping together out of laziness
Inception * great film, but not flawless. Wish I liked DiCaprio more.

Insomnia * Very surprised by this film. Did not know anything about it going in, and thought it was a very good movie. The most I've enjoyed Robin Williams since Good Morning, Vietnam.

The Prestige

Following * not seen

Memento couldn't play out any other way.

It's like you're experiencing the film as Leonard would. Suddenly thrust into the middle of a scene and not knowing what anything means.

I love that each time it goes around - you learn a little bit more about the plot.

* I didn't realise that after he kills Jimmy Grants that the film changes from B&W to Colour as it ties the two narratives together.

I need to watch it again soon I think.

Right, and it is constructed well. If you follow the plot sequentially, it isn't nearly as interesting of a story.

I’ve heard Nolan say many people didn’t see the BW/color change during that scene right away. I remember seeing the change, as it was just one of many WHOA moments during that film.

I will say though that for as good as the movie is, navigating the DVD menus make me wish I was in an institution.

Yeah - you can watch memento in chronological order if you want to but then it would just remove all the mystery...

To be honest, Memento is probably my least favorite Nolan film (of the ones I've seen, anyway).  I don't mean to say that it isn't good, because it's definitely good, but... I don't know.  To me, the story just really isn't all that interesting.  As Cool Chris said, it's constructed well and told in an interesting way, but there's nothing particularly special about the story itself.  The upside is that the first time I watched it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The downside is that now that I know the story, the whole movie feels slightly empty to me whenever I try to watch it again - the suspense and mystery feels manufactured and artificial, because I know that the only reason there's any suspense or mystery in the first place is that it's told in reverse order.  It's a novel concept, but once the novelty wears off, there's just not a lot of substance left for me.

I know I'm in the minority, though, and that's fine.  As I said, I still think it's a good movie.  Just, not as good as people make it out to be.

I'll put it this way: it's a movie I admire, but not one I actively enjoy very much anymore.

Yeah i actually got goosebumps when I read the synopsis.

It's what I really want from a Trek movie. Just dark and weird and messed up physics and SCARY.

I want a Star Trek movie akin to the TNG episode " Where Silence Has Lease ".
