I know there's still time, but once the Am Universum survivor is over, should I skip Far from the Sun and go straight to Eclipse? FFTS is their worst album IMO, and if Karelian Isthmus was skipped, that one should be skipped as well. Eclipse, along with the other new albums, seems to be among the more well-known albums, and FFTS songs would lose in the finals anyway.

I liked the part with the lake, but the "apocalyptic" scenery didn't work IMO. Interesting video still...

I was disappointed by that song to be honest - the chorus was very flat. Still, the previews sound far, far, better, so i'm still very excited.

I find it quite ironic that the verses are the catchiest part in You I Need (IMO), since usually the chorus is meant to be the catchiest. Eclipse survivor just started so VOTE VOTE VOTE!

yeah, I agree, funny how the chorus is the least catchiest part.  Even the guitar solo is more melodic and catchy IMO.

I don't agree, The chorus is amazing!

But by the way, Finnish people can listen the whole album tonight at a local radio station, muhahah!  :metal

TBOT is just... pure awesomeness! :metal :metal :metal Their most diverse album by far! The album has more proggy, aggressive and folky moments than the previous three. To those who didn't find You I Need interesting: don't fear, it's one of the less great songs on the album, the other songs are better. I also noticed that now it's easier to recognise the styles of each composer: Koivusaari writes the heaviest songs, Holopainen has the proggiest ideas and Kallio's songs are closest to the "basic Amorphis sound". 8 of the songs feature growls and I like the use of female vocals too.

Also, remember to vote in the survivor, there are just 2 voters now, and I'm sure there are much more people who have heard Eclipse!

The new album is killer, far stronger than Skyforger, and perhaps the best with Tomi J so far.

And would some people get their asses over to the Eclipse survivor!!

Another thing I noticed was that the drumming is more interesting than before, and Reformation has some pretty complex rhythms. My favorite songs are Song of the Sage, Three Words and Crack in a Stone. There's even some screaming on the latter! :metal I liked the more prevalent 70's and folk influences on the songs. I find it quite ironic how Esa said in the Finnish Soundi magazine that they try to avoid using Finnish titles in the lyrics, despite them being from Kalevala, as I noticed Finnish titles in three songs! :lol I think it's more than on the previous albums.
"This album is not available in the United Kingdom."
It should be now, as it was released in the whole Europe on Friday!

“The Beginning Of Times” out now!

From today on, The Beginning Of Times is in stores all over Europe, both on CD and on vinyl. The US release will be on June 7.

It may be a different day for UK, though.

On song 5, this is already way stronger than Skyforger. Let's see how it holds up against Eclipse and Silent Waters.

Highlights on the album (in my opinion):
Mermaid
My Enemy
Three Words
Beginning Of Time

other are pretty basic Amorphis, I don't say I don't like them but I was a little bit disappointed (just a little of course)

Mermaid has very good riffs and chorus, You I Need has been played on the radio little bit too much, Escape's nice intro riff is stucked my head, some cool proggy elements in other songs and I like those female vocals (fits great!)

Mermaid is the best song of the album in my opinion.

I don't think songs like Reformation or Crack in a Stone are basic Amorphis, but that's just my opinion. Actually, for some reason, the keyboard part at 0.16 in CIAS reminds me of Children of Bodom!

I like some of their albums, but my opinion on the ones on which they tried to copy metalcore is :puke:
I don't know, the keyboard sound just reminded me of the Follow the Reaper album (not shredding, fortunately! :lol)

UUugggghhhhhhh

Amorphis's last four albums have all sounded the same, and this is not a good thing.

Eclipse is one of my top ten favorite albums of all time.  The ideas and passion are both incredible.

Silent Waters was a very nice sequel.  About half the tracks are just as good as the best of Eclipse, and the rest are at the very least interesting and/or solid.

I honestly don't remember anything off Skyforger except Sampo (which sounds too much like a lesser version of I of Crimson Blood, but is at least solid), Sky is Mine (awesome song), and Majestic Beast (also awesome).

With The Beginning of Times, like, yeah it's more interesting as a whole, but even the good songs have structures, progressions, and licks that remind me too much of moments from the past three albums.  I like these guys, I really do, but they've beaten the dead horse of the Eclipse sound into ground meat.  Enough is enough.
Take a chance you may die
Over and over again

I dunno, I think this is the first time that there's been a bit of a departure. I think Silent Waters perfected the sound of Eclipse, but Skyforger was a slight step down. But this one goes a bit further with some of the heavy stuff.

It still doesn't match up to Silent Waters, but it's a really great album IMO.
