I love Skyforger, and Eclipse is pretty good as well, so I'm looking forward to this.  Any suggestions on where to go next?
SILENT WATERS.

IMO easily their best album.

Maybe not EASILY their best, but I'd definately agree its their best, and it would complete Tomi Joutsen era for you.

The thread title made me think of jokes in the line of

and makes backup CDs.

My ranking from the CDs I own:

1. Eclipse
2. Elegy
3. Tales from the Thousand Lakes
4. Tuonela
5. Silent Waters
6. Skyforger
7. Am Universum

The first 3 are absolutely essential (sorry, no big fan of Silent Wanters). Throw in Tuonela if you want some variety and you have a very strong introduction to the marvel Amorphis is.

I can´t wait to buy the CD/DVD but not living in the US anymore limits my ability to acquire new music.

Am Universum is my favorite.  :'(
I actually made a mistake and wrote Tuonela instead of Am Universum  :lol It's the first album I listened to, when I was still afraid of the growls. And man, what an excellent album it is. If it ranks 4 is just because the growls add so much to the band's sound that a mellow album from Amorphis is somewhat lacking. Anyway, I think I could put Am Universum on my top 2 any day.

Special road report by Mark Gromen

In Sonic Pump Studios, on the outskirts of Helsinki, AMORPHIS premiered their latest twelve track opus for an assemblage of foreign journalists, as well as homegrown fans. Even the album artwork is still in transition, as an egg hovers in the clouds above a groove of snow covered pine trees, the familiar arched Hammer Of Thor symbol is crudely depicted on the shell. Neither label reps, nor management had heard the album prior to the listening session! Bold move.

The still unmastered disc, rumored to go under the title of Beginning Of Time (the last song on the album) will be finalized within the coming week.

Tracklisting (running order still subject to change): 'Mermaid', 'My Enemy', 'You I Need', 'Battle For Light', 'Three Words', 'On A Stranded Shore', 'Escape', 'Reformation', 'Soothsayer', 'Song Of The Sage', 'Crack In A Stone' and 'Beginning Of Time'.

The songs feature plenty of death vocals from Tomi Joutsen, as well a couple of new wrinkles.

It will be released on May 27th through Nuclear Blast.
12 songs, sounds promising! :metal

Not a bad list at all, but severely lacking in Perkele (God of Fire).

I shall have a think and come up with a top 10. Maybe even in order of preference, if I'm able to decide...

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.

I put on Silent Waters on my car's CD player this morning. :)

And those are great songs, I would probably replace Sky is Mine and From Earth I Rose with somoe Eclipse tunes.

I really like the artwork and that the album centers around Väinämöinen, easily the most iconic character from Finnish folklore.

As Ariich has just accepted me as a friend on Lastfm I celebrated by giving his top played band a listen. I'd never heard anything by Amorphis so had a listen to Skyforger on Spotify and I'm liking it alot. not a fan of growls but coped with them on Static Impulse so giving this a go. I expected more Death-y stuff so pleasantly surprised.

Great to hear you're checking them out because of me! :D They're a pretty amazing band. Yeah they have some growls, but also clean vocals and everything in between. But even the heavy stuff is melodic and has wonderful sense of harmony and melody.

If you don't like growls, check out Tuonela and AM Universum.  Growl free, back when they had their old singer.

Sorry for the double post, but I have to ask: would anyone be interested in an Amorphis survivor? I could run one, if there were enough participants.
