Band just announced they'll be recording a new album to come out around September.

This year just keeps getting better and better.

Jens Bogren will be producing! :metal I hope he'll encourage the band to try some new things like Tägtgren did. That said, even if there's no change in style, at least the sound will be different compared to the previous records.

I don't think I've listened to Amorphis in 5 years or so.  I'll try to remedy that.

The cover art looks pretty atypical but cool! According to Esa this is probably their tightest record instrumentation-wise, so Bogren must've kicked their asses in the studio. :P Tomi Joutsen also said the new album is heavier than Circle.

BTW, an official Amorphis biography (in Finnish) is getting released at Record Shop X in July, one month ahead of the official release date. I already ordered a copy with a T-shirt! :metal
Yeah, saw this on facebook. Hope they'll play some new songs on their August festival gigs.
They premiered Shades of Gray on a Finnish tour they did about 4 months before Circle was released, so there'll probably be at least one new song in the set by August.

I'm relatively new Amorphis fan though, so I probably won't be able to distinguish the new songs from the old. :lol

Is there any fan favourite songs they always play and make people to sing along? I'll learn the words if that's the case. ;)

House of Sleep gets played at every normal Amorphis show and towards the end Tomi lets the audience sing the chorus. Most of their festival gigs concentrate heavily on Joutsen-era albums and especially the singles, such as Silver Bride and Hopeless Days, but they always throw in a song or two from early classics like Tales from the Thousand Lakes and Elegy.

Got an email from CD Japan yesterday.
Under The Red Cloud will be issued in Japan with a bonus track and bonus DVD, Live at Loud Park 2013.
Short Festival set list, only 9 songs, but for me well worth it:

Is the bonus track one of those on the digipak or a different one?

I'm taking a guess here, but I reckon it's an exclusive Japan only song.
Given that 13 songs were recorded, standard album has 10 songs, vinyl and digi have 12.
Leaves track 13 for the Japanese/Asian markets.

Yeah, I guess it's an exclusive track, just like New Song was on Circle. I'm just glad there aren't a million different editions and bonus tracks out there like last time. :lol

A listening session report: https://www.stalker.cd/index.php?lang=2&content=22&kat=stalker_special&id=391

The return of the sitar sounds promising! Death of a King has been played twice on the radio already, but unfortunately I missed it on both occasions.

Love the return of the sitar, the song reminds me of Better Unborn :metal The oriental elements are a big part of the charm of Elegy and Tuonela for me, so I don't mind them coming back at all. I like the fact that they didn't choose a safe single this time, although Hopeless Days was pretty different too.

According to the Finnish magazine Soundi, Amorphis and Children of Bodom will release a split single later this year, and both bands cover each other on it. Amorphis has recorded a version of Everytime I Die, whereas COB will contribute a cover of Black Winter Day. Santeri hinted at this in a video interview so I can't say I'm shocked - in fact, when he first mentioned that they'd recorded a Bodom song, my first thought was "Everytime I Die would be the perfect song for Amorphis!" :D

The official biography has been available in Finland for a while already and I have to say it's a great book! :tup It's got lots of interesting and funny stories from each era, even including the core trio's (Esa, Tomi K, Jan) childhood bands. I knew the record deal with Relapse had been a rip-off, but I can only imagine how the band felt when their albums sold six-digit figures around the world, yet they got zero royalties.

Apart from the jaw-dropping solo (Esa shreds so rarely!), the song is pretty average. However, there's some cool time signature shifting going on, and in the final chapter of the biography Bogren said it's the only (obvious) radio song on the album, so I'm definitely not giving up hope. I still think Death of a King rocks!
