The video isn't that great but the awesomeness of the song makes up for it

Basic performance video, although it's interesting that you can see their pedals :D

I can now confidently say that Circle is a great album. It's much better than The Beginning of Times, and probably better than Skyforger too, although the latter has higher highs. If I had to rank their discography, I would list it as such:

1. Elegy (5)
---
2. Silent Waters (4.5)
---
3. Tales from the Thousand Lakes (4)
3. Tuonela
3. Am Universum
3. Eclipse
3. Circle
---
8. Skyforger (3.5)
---
9. Far from the Sun (3)
9. The Beginning of Times
---
11. The Karelian Isthmus (2)
:TOX: <-- My own emoticon!

1. Elegy :heart :heart :heart (this album is just perfect)
2. Silent Waters :heart :heart
3. Circle :heart
4. Skyforger :heart
5. Tuonela :heart
6. Eclipse :tup
7. Tales From The Thousand Lakes :tup
8. The Beginning Of Times :\
9. Far From The Sun :\
10. The Karelian Isthmus :(
11. Am Universum :puke:

I'm not sure of Circle will stay that high on the list, but there's a good chance it will, since it's truly fantastic

1. Skyforger
2. Tuonela
3. Tales
4. Am Universum
5. Circle
6. Silent Waters
7. Elegy
8. TBOT
9. Eclipse
10. Karelian Isthmus
11. FFTS

3-6 vary all the time, so I could rank those differently on some other day.

BTW, Mora and I have been talking about starting an "Amorphis top x" list thread. I'll make a top 20 for both the 92-03 era songs and the Joutsen-era stuff and start next weekend. Anyone interested in following or making their own lists after the two of us have finished?

I'd definitely follow and I'd probably like to do a list myself (still have to think about it, but count me in after you two). Awesome idea :tup

I'm just getting into them, so I will definitely follow to see where you guys think the good stuff is.

Listened to "The Smoke" for the first time today on Eclipse.  What a great song!  The second half of that album is amazing (and the first half ain't too bad either).
Winger would be better!

Yes, there will be writeups for all the songs like in the top 50/20/whatever threads for other bands.

Santeri and Jan interviewed by another Finn... in English ???

Don't know if this can be viewed outside of Finland, but the full Ruisrock show (with the exception of Shades of Gray) can be watched here: https://ylex.yle.fi/uutiset/popuutiset/ja-nain-heiluivat-hevirastat-ruisrockissa-katso-amorphiksen-keikkataltio I like Tomi K's cap :D

I've never listened to them, black metal isn't really my thing.

BTW, I recently read an interview with Santeri where he said that at the Nightwish support gig in 2012 Esa came onto the stage when they had already started playing Silver Bride, because he was still in the toilet while the intro tape was rolling :lol Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObgWw6Q4CR8

Sorry to but in on your conversation, but I'm a fan of Shade Empire and yes their new album is just excellent. And I don't think they're really black metal. They sound more like blackened death metal to me.

Yup I am the same, they don't really sound black metal to me, though there are some BM bits and influences.
I'd call them extreme progressive metal if anything.

any suggestions on how to get the bonus tracks from Circle?  I don't see them in itunes or amazon.  I just got the cd in the mail from amazon which I thought had Dead Man's Dream and My Future.  Unfortunately it has neither. Bonus tracks are one of the most frustrating things to me about releases these days.

ok, quick revision.  It does have Dead Man's Dream and New Song, they're just not listed anywhere on the package.

But the one I'm really after is My Future.  Where can I find that one?

Some of the bonus tracks only came with "special mailorder editions" of the album, so I think you can't even buy them anymore even if you want to.

I saw an LP version of Circle at a record store and it includes My Future (as well as DMD), but yeah, Illusion was exclusive to the mailorder edition.

Ville, I think you did the Amorphis survivors previously, would you mind doing one this year? Of course only if enough people are interested in participating.

Yeah, I ran the survivor in 2011, but unfortunately the amount of voters was pretty small - on some rounds for Tuonela and Am Universum there was only one voter besides me and we skipped TKI and FFTS completely. Of course you and Milena have joined the forum since then, but I'm not motivated enough to do it again and I'll also be busy with my song roulette and possibly my top 50 album list too. However, I'd definitely vote in every round if you or someone else started the survivor.

Wow what a great set list and performance.
Must have taken a lot of balls to play the acoustic stuff in front of 80, 000 screaming metal fans.

Yeah, the acoustic bit was the best portion of the set IMO, although it looked like everyone in the audience was just waiting for the heavy songs. Mari's cautious headbanging in the beginning of Hopeless Days looks so cute :D
