I know you're a big fan... but definitely not my music.....
thanks for sharing though  :tup   :heart

RESULTS
Round 5 : Band

lonestar- Ever Forthright 7

I love this sub-genre… but I had tough times scoring this one….
I think the problem is the extra (unnecessary)  layers present in their music... There were parts that I muted the song to see whether I had some other song playing in the background.
What a shame, they actually have some cool stuff going on there… jazzy midsections, nice vocals.. awesome guitar sound.. competent delivery…..
I have to admit though, this one seems to be more of a grower…. You know it might take some getting used to… and I will commit that time and thank you later  ;)

Scorpion – Kalmah - 3

Not completely new to me … Since I never went through their whole catalogue entirely, I accepted the submission…
Same result though…. They don’t do it for me…

Onno - Diablo Swing Orchestra 9.5

Yeah I know DSO.. It’s been very popular on the roulettes around here… I wasn’t impressed.. but you obviously chose perfect songs to cater to my taste… dark and aggressive… Seriously .. hot damn… progressive jazzy metal?? Gimme!
I blame ‘A Tapdancer's Dilema’ … there has  always a huge hype about that song.. and I simply don’t like it… again no one can question the quality here… …  just don’t like uplifting / happy songs… However, I realise that this makes me miss out on much.. so I will be open minded and teach myself to appreciate the good uplifting songs… thanks for showing me their darker side though…. I would never give them another chance..
'Justice For Saint Mary' is absolutely amazing!!!  dark.. very dark…. I loved the Creepy strings.. they gave me goosebumps… the explosion towards the end with the frantic drums coming in.. oh my! and that electronic bits thrown in caught me by surprise… I am floored…. Clearly, I hadn’t seen enough of this band..
'Poetic Pitbull Revolutions' owned me from the get go… eargasm!!!…
After hearing those 2 songs. I said.. screw the roulette I will listen to DSC all day  :lol

Ytse - Crown The Empire – Limitless 8.5

Now this was absolutely fantastic.. Hot damn! I never heard of them before…
There are so  many core bands out there.. sounding similar... generic… .. a band have to differentiate themselves to get my attention..  these chaps nailed it …. Electronic touch.. wide range of  sound effects… fantastic varied vocals.. .. so good man! Thanks for this band…

Ruba - The Young Gods 3
Mm I don’t know… not for me…. completely new to me though… never heard..

Jingle Winger 8

I’ve got nothing to say…. Way to pick out a band I overlooked during my glam fangirly years. These guys definitely know how to craft beautiful songs.. fantastic harmonization too…. …

Lolzeez – Genesis

not assessed…. I will when I get a new band …

Elite – Dagoba 6

You guys seem to have understood my taste
But hell!  Are my ears a bit tired of music overload or am I getting old… lol…  I found their music a bit too busy… If I was the engineer, I would mix it slightly differently…  or if I was the producer, add some clean vocals to give the listener a pause to breathe and the possibility to better appreciate the brutal parts…
But I shouldn’t be harsh on myself.. My ears are perfectly fine… Take Gojira for instance.. I can listen to them 18 hours a day.. so there is a quality gap there… they probably not melodic enough...

lonestar 37,5
Onno   37,2
Elite     36,1
Ruba    29,9
Scorpion 29
Ytse   28,5
Lolzeez   22,5
Jingle   22

Damnit Nem, you have quite an eclectic taste. I have never met anyone who dislikes Kalmah while liking Wintersun. so I thought a high score was guaranteed! Not that that's a bad thing at all, it just makes it more challenging, I guess.

I have an idea on what to send, but I'll mull my options first. You'll probably have it by tonight.

Ok.. just to clear things up....

This round (#6) is open....
I see some players highlighting the melody aspect in their submissions....  I'll modify the OP to avoid the confusion... you know just in case... ;)

And by melody I mean something like this: ANDROMEDA - Lies 'R' Us
This is not the most technical song on the album but mang..... that vocal melody is blowing my mind!!!

And spidey.. that not-so-bad guitar player on your submission happens to be the founder of Andromeda and I happen to be familiar with all his projects... also I happen to have interviewed him lately.. so ... you might want to send something else....  ;D

and same goes for Sco :/
That album scored 5/5 on LO.... heard it million times... I know you're busy with exams though... happy to accept your first submission .. your choice :)

RESULTS
Round 6 Open
Nice round!

Ruba - The Confession - Through These Eyes 8

Nice song…. Technically that awesome yet so catchy and energizing… in fact the catchiest song this round... great vocal melodies and good delivery… I like the pounding drums and the shredding… it could use a better post-production though… overall I like it… I cranked it up and listened to it many times  :tup

Ytse - Motionless in White - Devil's Night 5

Marylin Manson? :P
well yeah not original.. but it’s not one of the criteria here… not bad.. not awesome.. somewhere between mediocre to good..  I love metalcore meets electronic type of music… nice synths and everything.. but nothing stood out to make me wanna come back to it ….

Scorpion - Extreme - Play With Me 4

Poor Sco.. sent me three bands all of which I am familiar with.. mails back and forth.. I accepted his last submission considering the fact that he is in between exams now…… This kind of rock is not my thing… I’ve never been big on Extreme… maybe in 90s a bit.. only like the Waiting for the Punchline album.. because Mangini is on

Loney Pomegranate Tiger - Maxims. 6

It’s a solid track… solid band.. and everything... you know there is a but coming don’t you :p
well in order for an instrumental to sit with me, it has to have an addictive melody… (See Satriani The Forgotten pt2) I love technical wankery .. Yes... but only in the form of passages between vocals… if parts of this track cut through a song it could blow my mind.. if you see what I mean..

JingleBoy - Vengeance – Engines 5

Shreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!!!! That was really good… I still don’t like the rock’n’roll vibe though (thankfully it is obscured by the speed  ;) )

Elite - Ghost Brigade – Breakwater 9

wow… someone has a good feel for my taste now  :o melodeath meets doom check….growls / clean vox mix.. check… rich texures, dark & depressive sound..  check… thick distortion.. nice riffage.. check…
horror samples add tons to the atmosphere too.. …
I absolutely loved it.. haunting piece! Ghost Brigade is definitely going to my  melodeth/doom folder (Swallow The Sun, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Theatre of Tragedy, Amorphis , Opeth etc) …  Thanks mister!

Onno - Barren Earth - Forlorn Waves 8

All those ^ I said above could apply to Onno’s submission too…. My problem with Barren Earth is the folky lead guitar melodies or (hippie flute sections) like the ones at the 2.42 minute mark.. that short passage didn’t kill it for me, though.. Maybe I am growing up a bit
I will definitely give them a fair chance this time! Thanks!

Lolzeez-Angra-Angels And Demons 7,9
I used Angra in somebody’s roulette myself  :lol .. I think it was LieLow’s… but oh well… Angra was a a huge improvement after Jethro Tull, Genesis and Riverside in terms of obscurity  :lol .. so I accepted it…
yeah.. I love this music… it’s all I am gonna say…

So this the what we've got now....

Onno   45,2
Elite     45,1
lonestar 43,5
Ruba    37,9
Ytse   33,5
Lolzeez   33,4
Scorpion 33
Jingle   27

that leaves everything to the last round... high competition there.. I wouldn't want to be you now  :lol

Lolzeez's last round submission
Quote
Lolzeez – Round 5 -- Harmonium-Histories Sans Paroles 3
not for me….

A request for the last round... please add your choice to the subject line:

Roulette - Round 7 - participant name - Choice - Artist name - Song name
Roulette - Round 7 - Ytse - Melody - Some Metalcore band - Some song

No .. did I say that I am familiar with Vengeance??
you didn't mention it in your submission either...

and what difference would it make even if it was Malmsteen, Gilbert or Petrucci? it's still rock'n'roll...  :lol
