New Joe Satriani album
« on: February 13, 2013, 05:27:22 AM »
Has anyone heard or read anything about this?
It was supposed to be released sometime this spring, but there's no mention of it anywhere.

Same here  :lol

But I haven't heard anything since Black Swans. Which was in 2010 so he's probably gearing up to start writing in the next year or so I'd think. He's done a new album every two years since '98; this is the longest he's gone without releasing in a while.  :rollin Man is a beast. Hopefully we'll get an announcement soon!

I remember pre-ordering Black Swans. It was an awesome album, one that I played for months. As such, I hope the new one comes out soon.

I thought Black Swans was his best album since Strange Beautiful Music. Can't wait what he'll come up with next.

I really liked Black Swans, it had some great moments; but to me, it also wasn't as impressive or immersive as his past albums. I think Super Colossal is still his most powerful, emotional and impressive piece of work since Engines of Creation, which is my favorite album by Satch. Strange Beautiful Music is just that, and I love it, but it too was missing something vital that many tracks lacked. I'm not sure how to explain it any better than that... Anyway, the man makes some incredibly awesome music and it hasn't let up very much in all these years. I still think he is improving, but the nostalgia of older albums when I first got into him will only grow as the years go by and sadly there's a limit to how much he can put out. Lucky for us, playing guitar is a lot less stressful on the body than singing.

The last two albums were awesome, but SC blew me out of the water and it still does to this day, just like EoC and SBM...and every album before that.  :lol I still can't get enough of Redshift Riders and One Robot's Dream.

speakoing of Super Colossal, i remember when i first heard A Cool New Way. it blew me away, the beat, the harmonies, the melody, the solo, EVERYTHING!
allthough the records following Strange Beautiful Music are a bit weaker than his previous work IMO, most of them have some standout songs and i consider that one to be among his best and in the same league with his classics.
the same goes for Searching from Is There Love...
and God Is Crying from Black Swans migth aslo be one of those. timewill tell :)
anyway, can't wait to see what he'll come up with next!  ;D

Love ACNW! Love that whole album. Oddly enough I think my favorite track off BSaWW is Solitude/Littleworth Lane. Solitude is short and simple, but it packs a punch along with the gorgeous intro to LL. Really great stuff. Damn it, now I need more Satch. *Puts on SC*

Rude Boy, you must have spidey sense or something;

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=186565

Legendary guitarist Joe Satriani (CHICKENFOOT) has issued the following update:

"Now that the asteroid has safely passed us by, I feel it's time to break my cyberspace silence and let you all know what I've been up to these last few months.

"After returning home from the last of three incredible G3 tours, I got down to writing music for a new solo record. A very prolific and cathartic two months followed resulting in a bundle of new music I was very excited to get recorded.

"With 16 of the songs selected for the project, all heading in different directions and touching on a variety of musical influences, I realized I needed to assemble a new studio band. The idea was to crank up the energy level of the sessions, and allow for more individual expression of the material, from each player. I pulled into Skywalker Sound with Mike Keneally on keyboards, Chris Chaney on bass and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. The chemistry between these awesome players was fantastic, and we blazed through all the tracks with everyone laying down amazing performances.

"On Valentine's Day I finally finished all the overdubs, reviewed the tracks with engineer/producer Mike Fraser and started loading out of the studio, elated! Now it's on to Vancouver, British Columbia, to mix.

"The new record will be called 'Unstoppable Momentum' and should see a release date of May 7th. I'm not sure how many songs will make it to the final sequence as I still have a lot of work ahead of me in that department.

"As you can see from the tour page [on my official web site], we are gearing up to bring the new music on tour starting in mid-May and continuing through 2013. My touring band will consist of Mike Keneally on keys and guitar, Bryan Beller on bass, and Marco Minnemann on drums. I'm so excited about tearing it up on stage with this new band! See you out there on tour..."

No Jeff on drums.  :-[  Marco though on tour, that's cool.

Cool stuff, will have to catch satch again on tour. He is the only electric solo guitar player that I'd go out of my way to see play.

I also happened to put in Super Colossal again, and I was pleasantly surprised. I even like the title track now, while I thought it was really dull when it came out. The album's really poppy, and in this case it absolutely works.

Anybody listening to this? So far, it's about on the level as his last one, which I think was the best since Engines of Creation. It's not just jam-over-a-backing-track anymore, he's actually writing music again!

The cover reminds me of the Sony Xperia Z logo.

Listening on Spotify. It's ok. It's a Satch album. It's sacrilegious but I really find his soloing repetitive these days. And I'm over the whammy pedal.
I miss the quirky vocal songs.

Might get better with more listens. I really liked the last one.

Got this on Tuesday, but had Rush that day and have only gotten to listen to it once so far. Definitely enjoyed it though.
