Fuck you Scorp, for stealing my song.

And you for stealing mine. I even wrote an essay about it once.

I know you did, but at least I knew -or had heard of- the song before that. I introduced Scorp to the band.

Bit of a shame people weren't allowed to send the same song in the same round, screws people over a bit.
Yes, I know, but it wouldn't be fun if I would receive some songs 2-3x each round.

Yes and on the other hand, we get screwed for sending in later than someone else, even though we're still within limits. In fact, I've sent Ars Moriendi more often for these kind of rounds, so I knew very well I was going to send it here as well. Just because I was later, I had to resort with something less suitable.

That's true as well. Give me some time to think about it. And if other people have ideas on how to solve this, please post them.

Yay! Elite and Nihil, I'm sorry, but that was the first song that came to my mind.

Anyway, dark stuff... I'll have a think on this.

oops, looks like I certainly screwed that up.

I would have corrected this earlier, but I spent most of yesterday in the emergency room due to dehydration and nausea related to a severe stomach virus.  yay!

I'll send a replacement shortly.

It was the only song that should've come to mind.

Well Onno, you could give all three of us 10 points. But I don't really care that much.

And I'll send mine very soon. I love dark and broody music, so this should be no problem.

I might just give you all three 10 points, and the next time two or more people send the same song, I'll give them the same score as well. Unless anyone objects, of course.

To be honest, I've always allowed people to send the same song in the same round (though had rules on the same band being used in later rounds, usually only allowing it if I scored below a certain level) and it's only happened to me once in two roulettes (three, if you count the Roulette of Champions). Technically it means there's slightly less scope to discover new music, but I've discovered SO MUCH from my roulettes that it hasn't really bothered me.

Tis entirely up to you of course. Some people focus on the game aspect, others more on the music discovery, I tried to balance the two, or rather not let either interfere with the other. :)

ROUND 5 RESULTS

Dr. DTVT: Enchant – Defenseless

I don’t think this song is very dark, apart from the lyrics, which are sad and OK. I don’t like the vocals, and while the guitar solo is good, I don’t really like the rest of the instrumentals. I’m sorry, but I don’t like this.

6.0/10

lonestar: IQ – Capricorn

I’ve seen these guys live once, and they didn’t really spark my interest at the time. I was curious when you sent me this song, because I wanted to know if I would be interested this time. Well, turns out I’m not. The song is not really that dark, and though the lyrics are good, I sincerely dislike the vocals. The instrumentals are OK, but nothing special. The sax is pretty cool though, but not enough to save the song. Overall, I don’t really like it, sorry.

6.0/10

Lolzeez: Van Der Graaf Generator – Killer

This sounds like nice old prog. The lyrics are really dark, but other than that, the song is too happy IMO. I don’t really like the vocals either. The instrumental parts are really cool though; but overall, it’s not nearly as dark as I’d wanted it to be, though it is a pretty OK song.

6.5/10

Elite: Enochian Theory – The Fire Around the Lotus

Cool song which fits the theme nicely. I didn’t really think of it as something special though. It was cool to listen to, but nothing more than that.

7.4/10

crazyaga: Swans – I Was A Prisoner In Your Skull

Wow, another unconventional entry by you! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised :D This is dark, but in a weirder way. It’s an interesting song.

7.5/10

black_floyd: Psychotic Waltz – A Psychotic Waltz

Dark mood, good lyrics, decent vocals and nice instrumentals. Good song.

7.8/10

Big Hath: Katatonia – The Longest Year

I’ve been wanting to check this band out for a while. I’ve heard a few songs before and it sounded pretty good. Anyway, this song has a really dark, beautiful and desperate atmosphere. I like that. The lyrics are good and dark too. The vocals are OK, but fit the song really well. Overall, it’s a great song.

8.3/10

Nihil-Morari: Gregor Samsa – These Points Balance

It’s a beautiful and dark song, but it’s almost too sad. It almost depresses me. Why? Because it’s so empty and slow. But it’s still beautiful and sad. And the more I listened to it, the less depressing it became. Great song.

8.3/10

Scorpion: Green Carnation – The Burden Is Mine... Alone

This is a really beautiful song. It’s really sad, and has simple but effective lyrics. It’s one of those songs which has only a guitar and some vocals, but it doesn’t need more. It’s great!

8.5/10

MoraWintersoul: Kamelot – Glory

This was the third song I’ve listened to, and the first one that I could say was dark. Although not extremely dark, it is certainly dark enough, and really beautiful. It’s sad and has good lyrics. The song has a really medieval vibe, which I really like. It’s short but that’s not a bad thing, its length is perfect! Great song. You know, I’ve seen these guys live on a festival ones. I should really look them up.

8.7/10

STANDINGS
As no one objected, I changed the scores of Elite and Nihil-Morari in the last round to 10/10, because they initially sent the same song as Scorpion. From now on, people who send the same song in a round will not have to send a new one.

Scorpion 43.5
Nihil-Morari 42.9
Big Hath 42.8
MoraWintersoul 41.2
black_floyd 41.0
crazyaga 41.0
Elit: 40.9
Dr. DTVT 39.4
Lolzeez 39.2
lonestar 38.1

FORBIDDEN LIST UPDATE
Added:

Gregor Samsa
Green Carnation
Kamelot
Katatonia
Psychotic Waltz

And now, there is hope! [/cheesymode]

ROUND 6: DREAMING LIGHT
After the depressing mess that was the dark round (???wut), you now enter a safe place where nothing can harm you. Send me a song that will get me happy even in my most depressing moods. Beautiful happy music that I already like (AKA tips): I love Anathema, especially their last two albums. The song you send me doesn't have to have happy lyrics; I cheer up by listening to DT - Beneath the Surface and Opeth's Damnation as well. Just make sure the sound of the whole song is happy. The deadline of this round is this Wednesday, 19:00 CET. Good luck!

Happy stuff... you know, sucks that you're a Devy fan, otherwise I'd be sending Bender or Sunshine and Happiness without a second thought. This way, I'll have to think for a while.

This is gonna be a difficult one. I rarely listen to 'happy' music, and I don't really see how Damnation is a happy song, or Beneath the Surface. To be honest, I think that's closer to your last dark round. But lemme see what I got!

Haha, I'm sorry, I was meant to take 1 song off of damnation and put it there, but figured people might misunderstand me. The result of that is that I look stupid.

Well, let me take 'Death whispered a lullaby' then, that's not happy.
