Judging time!! Sorry for taking a day longer and for awful writeups, I am kind of short on time. I liked all your songs and I am having a kickass time with this.
Mystery Participant - Van Halen - One Way To Rock
2 pointsPretty neat, nice hard rocking tune with great guitar-playing. That's about the beginning and the end of it. I liked it.
Elite - Dagoba - Face The Colossus
2 pointsThose French metallers, always weird and cool as fuck. They lost me a bit with the vocs and the symphonic-ish overtones but I dug just about everything else.
Ruba - Bruce Dickinson - Darkside Of Aquarius
3 pointsNeat song! I always liked Bruce and I suppose I should really check out the rest of his solo stuff, besides the 15-ish songs I already know. He's awesome.
Lolzeez - Pat Metheny Group - Follow me
3 pointsLadies and gentlemen, Lolzeez's story for your enjoyment:
"This is the first jazz song that I remember hearing. Pretty much. 4 years old,my uncle is listening to Imaginary Day on a CD player with headphones on. That evening I woke up from sleep at 3:00AM or something. I had a nightmare about a green woman with big teeth following me and saying "Hi Onat. We haven't seen each other in a while." Yeah this may be the only dream I will always remember. Nobody was awake at all. I turned on that CD player, put on these headphones and there we go. Imaginary Day was playing. The first track was the title track. But I skipped it cause I guess it was "too long". Next up was Follow Me. And I enjoyed the living crap out of it. Then I stayed up,listening to Follow Me for like 4 hours before my parents woke up. Yeah.. It was weird. Anyways I just felt like sharing this story with you. I was originally gonna go for some Mahavishnu track but I had a good story to tell about Follow Me. So here you go. Enjoy. Also,Pat Metheny likes doing effects with his guitar. Hope you don't mind. Holy crap I wrote too much. Ah well. Enjoy"
Dr. DTVT - Tony MacAlpine - Key To The City
4 pointsThere's something really universally appealing about this man's guitar style, I can't tell what it is but I dig it a lot.
YtseBitsySpider - Killswitch Engage - My Last Serenade
4 pointsMy friends listen to a lot of metalcore and I always just shut my brain out when they do that because I don't particularly care for it, but whenever this song comes on I enjoy it. Especially that clean-vocal part. Something about it always gets me.
Onno - Anathema - Untouchable part 1
5 pointsJudging by the number of Anathema fans on DTF, I think everyone in this roulette knows this song, so I don't have to be creative with the writeup
the number of points speaks for itself.
ariich - Haken - Insomnia
5 pointsA somewhat standard song from these gentlemen - Marco is responsible for not letting me completely miss out on them, he got me into some of their epics - but very high in quality. I'll be jumping on the Haken3 bandwagon I guess.
Scorpion - Buckethead - Hills Of Eternity
6 pointsYou were right, it
is extremely emotional and mellow and I loved this. I always dismissed Buckethead as yet another quirky shredder, I guess I'll have to make up for that.
Well! The third round is "something lyrically good" and Marillion is off for this round, as I've in the meantime been introduced to their most awesome lyrics/songs by... a lot of people
If you're not a lyric-person, send me an instrumental I guess.
Don't have time to calculate points now (when I get back from the great outdoors, I promise) but I think you're all pretty close. Deadline is Wednesday and I'll make sure to judge them pretty fast so get snapping. Think about rounds in advance as well, since I intend to shorten the deadlines after this round.
