Alrighty then, since no one objected, here's what I've come up with.
I received one 26 minute song and three 9+ minute songs to judge today and... it was pretty fun, actually! Results:
Lolzeez - Genesis – Supper’s Ready
6.5 pointsI'll probably be scorned for saying this but it sounds like what you'd expect unhinged 70's prog musicians would sound like - just working out their boredom of popular music without a lot of pre-meditation. It got quite awesome in places but there were a lot of places if you know what I mean.
Onno - Storm Corrosion – Drag Ropes
7 pointsIs having heard Storm Corrosion Of Love And Emotion but not Storm Corrosion itself a mortal sin?
I guess I never cared enough to check it out. It was okay, got pretty awesome in the last three or four minutes.
Ariich – After Forever – Cry With A Smile
7.5 pointsYou don't have to write such a lengthy introduction to Floor Jansen, I adore her already
what kind of bugs me about After Forever songs that I've heard so far is that Floor is by far the best thing in their music. But hey they're better than Nightwish from what I could work out.
Elite – Jeff Buckley – Vancouver
8 pointsShit dude this is beautiful. More of that, any day.
Dr. DTVT - IQ – Life Support
8 pointsMason wins email writeup of the round: "since you like KM I know you appriciate keys"
LOGICAL LINE OF THINKING.
Anyway, quite a neat little prog song and my 805th "I should investigate further".
Ruba - Animal Alpha – Bundy
8 pointsCould have worked for the danceable round as well, such awesome shit
I like this woman you like.
Also, another KM reference in the email writeups: "She's the same for me than Kevin Moore for you" WHAT IS IT WITH YOU GUYS
Mystery - Mystery – Dear Someone
8.5 pointsHow fitting that the band's name is Mystery
you said this guy toured with Yes. I don't care if this is blasphemy but I like his voice better than Jon Anderson's. Well done.
Scorpion – Agalloch – Falling Snow
9 pointsHow surprising that Scorpion sends me a song that I totally fall for YAWN
YtseBitsySpider - Theocracy – Laying The Demon To Rest
9 pointsThis, however, is new. You are right, I have been slightly avoiding this band because of the Christian lyrics... I don't have anything against religious lyrics, in theory, but if I know outright I won't be able to relate, a band goes down a bit on my check-out list. I wouldn't be surprised if this were their best song, it has the "best song a band has done" vibe. Seriously if you're reading this thread and don't mind metal check this stuff out.
