Guess who bought a bluray player in April just for watching this...?  :lol Nevertheless it's good that now we should at least be sure about when it's coming. I guess I should buy the Live at Budokan bluray or something else just to check that my player works, I haven't been able to test it yet.  :P

I bought my bluray player about a month ago, in preparation for this. The first disc I bought was Live At Budokan, and I was not disappointed. Great quality in both sound and video.

By BluRay standards, Budokan is below average. Expect to be blown away by the Luna Park BluRay.

Just thank me for the facts ;)

But seriously, I know it because it can only go up from the Budokan BluRay. It was a lot better than the DVD, but still disappointing as a BluRay.

So you still don't actually know the quality of the product?

I'm assuming that the picture quality of Luna Park will be at least average, which would already be enough to make Budokan pale in comparison.

I'm also actually thinking of getting Blu-Ray before this comes out; but then I'll have to probably get a new surround sound system as well so we'll see . . .

So, looked over at the cube next door a few minutes ago and saw the admin working on some slideshow about safe travel. Guess what stock photo or an airplane was on the powerpoint?

So, yeah, really hope that's not the real artwork, because if so it's another lazy-ass job by Syme.

Not exactly an exciting cover but it fits the contents of the DVD and its not so exciting because it draws on the ADTOE cover which was terrible.

Haha NO but I'm glad Hughe Syme hasn't lost his knack for copying the first stock photo he finds and pasting it onto the next stock photo he finds :D

This is my 1st album cover. It's a shot of us playing live. My nephew in a monster baby gro and my bro's hand taken with a scanner.

PLus we agonised for hours over the design and which font looked best etc etc

Not just " band " "monster" & "hand" searched via a stock image database with the band name at the top and the album at the bottom.

It is the real artwork. I thought that was already an established fact at this point.

Reminds me of Chaos in Motion. I don't mind it, DT videos never had spectacular covers anyway. I'll just be happy to actually be able to watch it.

:lol Chaos in Motion actually does have a pretty good cover though (much better than this one imo). At least give it that. It needs this one.

Yeah, in fairness, I'd say Chaos in Motion is probably Hugh Syme's best work for DT. Best cover, certainly - he has done some cracking booklet art.

I have the cover of it printed on the back of my DT hoodie. There was another one in the store, but as soon as I saw this one, I had to have it, ya know? :D It's the black sheep DVD! The DVD that shouldn't have been!

More sincerely, I do think CiM's lack of quality is a little exaggerated. It's a neat little memento in exactly the same way Five Years in a LIVEtime was. Hardly the last word on DT DVDs, but I think its only crime at the moment is being the newest. It's unspectacular, and a little rough around the edges, but basically fine.

HUGH SYME SPEAKS ON CLOWN COVER

After a decade serving as the mastermind behind the album covers of progressive metal band Dream Theater, artist Hugh Syme has finally come clean to Metal Edge regarding the inspiration for the album art of Dream Theater's 2010 masterpiece "A Dramatic Turn of Events".

So what made the art for "A Dramatic Turn of Events" so appropriate, relative to Syme's other art? According to Syme, it was all just a matter of actually listening to the music.

"Before 'A Dramatic Turn of Events', I never actually listened to any of the band's music," Syme says.

As Syme takes us through his portfolio, he explains to us a bit of his creative process-- the same process that has created album art for bands like Rush, and Nevermore.

"When I have to do a job for a band like Dream Theater, I usually just look at the title of the work and some of the song names. A couple years ago they brought me an album called 'Octavarium' and I found some great images of 8-balls and grass on the internet. The band loved it."

But for Dream Theater's 2010 album "A Dramatic Turn of Events", Syme decided to listen to the record first, and that's when everything changed.

"I saw the title 'Bridges in the Sky' and though maybe I could find some great images of the sky on google. But then I say f*ck it, let's listen," Syme says.

And then he did.

"And it was f*cking circus music! And here I am, working with the band for years, thinking they're just some heavy metal thing. I knew then and there I'd have to go with a clown on the cover this time."

:rollin :rollin :rollin LOL I swear I totally believed it entirely all the way up to like the second to last line I went, "wait... Oh I GET IT!" hahahaha I was just really dissapointed that there was that little thought that went into Octavarium for a second..

There is actually a small chance that the band never actually told him about its existence, seeing how bad he sounded on it.

Which would have nothing to do with it not even being a full concert recording, and thus not actually being comparable in the context he was speaking about their DVDs.

No no, JLB must be on the DTF bandwagon too!
