Since it seems the first night will be the full concert (minus the bonus songs), are we losing out on any spectacular performances from the second night of any of the duplicated songs?
On most of what I checked out, no. Just like the first night, they were mostly slightly stronger than the tour average, but the first night was stronger overall, and on a couple of songs (notably Surrounded) significantly so.

I was at both shows and to me the second one sounded a lot better than the first one but I think it had to do with the fact that I was at different places withing the venue. Still, I wouldn't rely on what was heard on the show or in the videos you saw because the sound will surely have some editing on top.

Honestly, I am of the opinion that if JLB needs a little bit of "help" to sound amazing, then I'm all for it (as long as it isn't auto-tuned to hell).

I'd much prefer it to some of Budokan.

Featuring John "the exaggerator" Petrucci.

I'd be extremely disappointed (and also utterly shocked) if OTBOA won't be in the DVD. It also hits me harder than ever that until the release of their next DVD (and even then it's not certain), the only "official" BCSL live footage we'd have is Download festival and Summer Sonic. I mean, BCSL is kinda my least favorite DT album, but that doesn't mean much when they're all so great and honestly, maybe that observation would change if I got to see some of these songs played live, as it did with, say, TOT.

Otherwise, it all seems great. Bring it!

Yeah, I was just looking at that.  The setlist for the last BC&SL show in Tokyo would have filled in very nicely the songs we don't have on a DVD release.

Hey DT!  If you're reading this I would definitely buy a YTSEJAM release of this.

On the Backs of Angels will be on the DVD.
I'm aware it was probably a mistake (or I missed it, or the guys who copied the translated text missed it), but it had me worried for like the split second it took me to mention that in my previous post as I really liked that song and James nailed did wonders in that edition. It's more about BCSL, especially the Portnoy-related songs, be it musically (vocals in ANTR, TCOT) or personally (TBOT, TSF).

I'm more or less satisfied with the footage available from the festival's broadcast in Youtube, obviously it would've been nicer to get it in higher quality and adjusted for a DT DVD but it's great this way too. I'm definitely hoping to get an official bootleg from the BCSL tour one day, but I hold higher hopes for having all the songs from that album in rotation in future tours.

Maybe bar TBOT if they really have to. As much as i love that song, it is even more personal than SDV lyrically (however it screams "DT" musically). It'd be stupid if they banned TSF though, as it's the summary of a saga featuring songs they used to play dozens of time (not counting Repentance...), one of those songs was in rotation in this very tour.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I hear you, but once you think about it it would be kind of silly to not include the single from the album...and song they played on both nights.

Ah, it was played on both nights? Then it's definitely there if the first night in its entirety is the main footage of the DVD :P I really need to check out the setlists again, haven't looked at them since September

P.S., do you guys think that the bonus songs from the 2nd night would be mixed and worked on at the same level as the main set?

Nothing new, but still...

QuoteWe're at the mercy of DT and they've decided to hold off on the bonus feature until it gets closer to the release. We have been pushing to release as much as we can but to be honest, your constant negativity isn't keeping us motivated  But as soon as we're allowed to release something... we certainly will, because we're just as excited to!!

Let's just pretend that update never happened. I'm very excited for the bonus contents and the show, and I'm really looking forward the 360° thing. :)

ggrrrrrrrrrr..

well at least it's not as bad as when I was waiting for Styx to release the Grand Illusion/ Pieces of Eight DVD... The concert was in November 2010, and it came out Jan 2012... and we got pretty much no updates in between.. and it had songs I had to refrain from looking at on youtube since some were obscure songs they had never played live before and I wanted to see the whole thing at once. and btw they still call it their "new" DVD..

DebraKadabra

They should've done Pieces of Eight when Dennis was still in the band - saw a show on The Grand Illusion 20th anniversary tour and it SMOKED.

Anyhoo... why is your user name so long?

Another Styx fan? Awesome!!! Yea Dennis is fantastic too, but have you seen Lawrence Gowan? He's very different than DDY in some ways. Some better, some not, but Id rather see Styx without DDY and DDY on his own. And the album they made in 2003 (the only studio one with LG) is FANTASTIC. If you like DT you need to check out that album. Namely the song One With Everything.

Why is my username so long? Cuz it's freakin awesome! Haha It's actually at the character limit  ;D

DebraKadabra

Already quite familiar with One With Everything - great song, but... it was missing a little something.  Mainly Dennis.  Heh... yeah, I'm a DDY fangirl, I admit it.    Been a fan since about 1981/1982.

Oh, and I get your handle - it's just too freaking long. :lol

TheAtliator

ahh haha alright  :) I freaking LOVE that whole album. That and Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight and Serpent is Rising and all the others

now back to Dream Theater lol

OTE should have never been teasing everyone with all these cool things about the DVD unless they have a definite date on which to release the material, rather than putting it off every week.

A few thoughts on the last few posts...
1. While if any of the two sides here are in the wrong it's DT rather than OTE, but I have a feeling that DT won't work with OTE for their next release. The band and their management really doesn't like drama and pretty much communicating with fans beyond objective facts, and OTE's PR or facebook management or whatever is kinda arguing with fans right now. Maybe and hopefully I'm wrong because they seem to do a great job otherwise.

2. I don't even get why DT fans (on Facebook mostly, mind you, not you guys) expect the production guys to give out information about the product. I mean we don't expect the guys who mix and master the audio in Roadrunner records to leak material out to the internet, if that ever happens it comes from DT and the people in charge of the band and the record company. Not the employee who actually produces it.

3. Their comment wasn't so tasteful and it's a shame that we even got to a situation where we're mad at the band for under-publicizing their product (and some random guys at Facebook blame it on OTE), but seriously, those comments in FB on each and every post from OTE...DT fans are dicks.

Perpetual Change

Holy shit these "DT" people on OTE's Facebook are annoying. I'm anticipating the release as much as anyone, and I think some of OTE's announcements have been weird, but that's no reason to spam the guys.

No wonder DT fans barely have a better reputation than Juggalos online :D

JayOctavarium

DT

Seriously what is up with the spam? I mean... come on... I can imagine spaming posts that are about DT but give the guys a little respect and don't spam everything.

Some people are douches.

MoraWintersoul

TBH I'm a bit embarrassed about this as well, it made sense to ask for info when they were still promising they'd actually give any info (which was plausible, since up 'til this point there isn't even a trailer with concert audio released), but spamming them now is just pointless. Since the DVD was tentatively scheduled for May, and we don't have any release dates nor a name or anything, I would expect there's been a delay or the label/DT has decided to announce it later so it wouldn't clash with album/tour/Jordan's April Fool's album mock-press release/Jesus resurrecting again/YOU GET THE POINT-announcements and since OTE's already been hasty enough to announce shit way before time, they are likely now embarrassed (or at least I would be) and spamming them is just not nice.

I wouldn't go as far as to say this is another thing that damages the reputation of DT fans, since no one but like, half of actual DT fans are even aware the DVD is underway for release anymore, because the situation is what it is :P

Mladen

That wasn't very pleasant to see, but for some reason I had to chuckle a bit.  ;D
