Nowadays, being mainstream doesn't mean most will have at least heard of you.  I am still surprised at how most people have no clue who Arcade Fire is, yet they are very mainstream.  Hell, they won the biggest award at the Grammys two years ago!  It ain't like 25 years ago when it was a safe bet that most at least knew the names of most artists who were mainstream.  A lot has changed over the years.

I couldn't tell you a single thing about this band.  To my knowledge I've never heard a second of their music.

I just recently got their award-winning album The Suburbs.  It's pretty amazing, to be honest with you.

What does that even mean?  That is like saying DT seems like a prog dork's band.  It makes zero sense.  Who gives a crap what kind of people listen to a particular band or genre?  How good the music is, is all that matters.

Like I said, I have nothing against them but the only people that I know personally that like them are hipsters. I don't mean they're a band that only hipsters like, they just seem like a band up the hipster alley.  :lol

But you are right, it really doesn't matter who listens to what as long as the music is good. I probably should've kept that one to myself  :lol I just always think of this hipster kid I used to know whenever I hear of Arcade Fire.

I'm not a fan of Arcade Fire or most other bands of their ilk. That whole "indie" sound usually makes my skin crawl. I can't really put into words what makes something indie, but I always know it when I hear it.

They are an interesting and peculiar species. Having gone to Film school, I had the opportunity to study them in the wild for a few years now. They typically feed on PBR and graze in coffee shops/art schools.

I tried to suggest recently in the funny thread I think it was that the hipster thing is probably mostly just a fashion trend amongst younger people, but was politely advised that I am wrong.

But yeah, Arcade Fire is a pretty sweet band.  Neon Bible is where it's at for me, all of their albums are great though.  I'm sure most of you have at least heard Wake Up.

Yup, except if anything at all about you is different, you're a hipster. I get called a hipster all the time, I just roll with it and keep doing what I'm doing.
