Well, if DeYoung vs Walsh wasn't close enough (currently at 11-10 for Walsh), let's turn it up a notch, literally. Time to enter the metal arena.

For me, Dio had more versatility.

Dio was a more gifted singer, so I went with him.

Ozzy is one of the best frontmen though, not that Dio was a slouch in that department, but with Ozzy you always had the possibility of something legendary happening.

Dio. Far more range, far more ability. Nothing against Ozzy, but Dio was one of the best singers in the history of rock.

Going with Dio, but not denying that Ozzy is one of the best frontmen ever, when I saw Sabbath back in '98, I was literally stunned by how much he owned the crowd.

Ozzy is great, I probably like his BS stuff more than Dio's, but Dio is just better singer and I simply like him more.

If the question was Frontman, I would have had to thought about it and went with Ozzy, but purely as a vocalist, Dio was far better. Dio honed his craft, Ozzy just did his thing.

It's a more interesting question when you compare Sabbath incarnations. As good as Mob Rules was (and Dehumanizer might be better), it can't compete with something like Sabotage or SBS. Add to that, Ozzy could actually sing pretty well back then. Certainly not up to Dio standards, but perfectly competent. He's been pretty halfassed ever since Never Say Die.

I'm not a huge fan of Ozzy's voice but I do think he's decent. Dio is just in a completely different universe for me though so I had to go with him.

If we were talking favorite incarnations of Black Sabbath, I woulda went with Ozzy but Dio is a much better singer, IMO.

I love both vocalists and their careers, but it was obvious this one wasn't going to be a contest. Ozzy has never been the strongest vocalist, and he's always the first to admit that. And Dio was just a monster when it came to vocals. Unrivaled power, and an influential vocal style.

If we were comparing music, you'd have a competition, but vocally it's gotta be Dio.
