Just got a Strat. What songs should I learn?
« on: January 26, 2013, 11:29:26 AM »
I just got a Strat.  I've always been more of a Gibson man, but thought I'd give the Strat one more chance since I don't own any single coil guitars. I hit up the store and tried some out and I LOVE it now.  I got a 2012 American Deluxe.  It's real nice.
Anyway....  What are some of the essential Strat songs I should learn?  Obviously I had to learn Little Wing, and SRV's Lenny... but what are some of those others that any Strat owner should know?

There really are an innumerable amount of awesome songs to learn. I don't think I'd know where to strat.

Wasn't the 'Lines in the Sand' solo by DT played on a strat? Totally love that tone.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

Mmmm, Cliffs of Dover. I'd vote for Crossroads over Cocaine though.

You know what you should do?

Take music that is considered particularly thought of as belonging to anything other than a Strat. Like Led Zeppelin since Page mostly played Gibsons, AC/DC because Angus Young plays Gibson SGs. Michael Schenker because he plays Flying Vs. And play the SHIT out of it on that Strat. Make those songs WAIL. That'd be a lot more fun to me if I was a guitar player. But I'm a way out of practice drummer, what do I know?  :lol

Play some of the older RHCP-stuff. Simple, easy but enjoyable songs.  ;D

Noooooooooooo.
The most awful guitar in the world.
Always hated the tele. My mate loved them- he was a big Status Quo fan- but I just couldn't stand them.

What do teles sound like anyway? Springsteen's the only player I can think of off the top of my head that plays one since they literally are the ugliest of the widely played guitars out there imo and thusly I generally don't pay attention to players I see using them.

Agreed, I can't stand Telecasters. Not only are they ugly, but I never enjoyed playing them. I'll take a strat or a PRS anyday over a Tele.

Here's another prominent tele player

American Deluxe is the BOMB

Got mine in '08 and went with the one without the pick guard:

Great Strat sounding tune to learn is "Sultans of Swing"

My girls- l to r Magdalena, Jemma, Rosie and Yngrid

The strat is a USA Yngwie signature model. Jemma's the guitar that made me a better player just by buying it though. So easy to play and an awesome sound even plugged straight into the amp. The scalloped strat is alot harder to play but cool for bluesier stuff and the BC Rich Eagle is just a beautiful instrument, Needs some work on it though, not played it in years.

Oh good, we are posting pictures now,

My babies from left to right:

Sigma acoustic, Jackson reverse Dinky, 98 Squier strat (my first guitar), MIM Fender strat with American pickups installed, Custom 22 PRS SE, Soapbar PRS SE and lastly a squier bass.

The MIM strat is my favorite and has a really nice set up and the American pickups scream. I love it.

Out of all the years I've played guitar I still haven't played a scalloped fret guitar. I need to fix that sometime soon. Apparently you have to have a very light touch.
