The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones

Two of the biggest bands of all time, and certainly two of the biggest bands of the British Invasion. Which band do you prefer?

I've always liked The Beatles more. They just have something to them that you can't get from other bands of the era.
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

The Stones had some great tunes...but I honestly can't imagine someone preferring them over The Beatles.

Beatles. I have just never gotten into the Stones, though I know how important they are to the history of rock and roll.

Not a fan of either, but probably The Beatles. They have quite a few nice tunes. For the 60's I'm much more of a Sly & The Family Stone and US in general man.

Man, I started the thread because I thought that there would be some pretty great discussion of each band's musical impact and quality. Now it's just turning into a Beatles appreciation thread. I'm okay with that though, The Beatles are awesome.

Both bands are a product of the times. Elvis' music is more enjoyable than both bands put together and Elvis' music kinda sucks.

The Rolling Stones had some good songs in the 60s: Paint It, Black, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Satisfaction, etc. But they've pretty much written the same song over and over again since. I did like that new one Doom and Gloom, though, despite being pretty familiar in style.

The Beatles had a much shorter career so they never had the chance to screw up like a lot of bands did (a lot of their solo material was disappointing though). Their high points were way higher than the Stones'. I like both the early and later Beatles about equally. They had an extra energy that a lot of bands at the time were lacking.

Did you know one of the Rolling Stones' first hits was I Wanna Be Your Man...A BEATLES SONG?!?!?! (actually, the stones released it first, but it was written by lennon/mccartney)

Oh, and Elvis was great.

Both overrated. If I had to pick one it'd be the Stones, though. Most of their music doesn't interest me, but they had two perfect songs, and most bands don't even have one. That counts for something.

I dislike both, but I'll go with The Rolling Stones, because I don't quite despise them as much. Or maybe I've just built up more of an immunity to them.

I dislike the Stones (except for a new Stones tune I heard in the car a few days ago... is was ok).... And the Beatles... well.. They don't do much for me either. Difference is I don't dislike the Beatles... and a couple tunes really get my juices flowinig...

So my pick is....

The Who('s earlier tunes that can compete w/ the other 2)

NANANANANANANANANANANANANANA BATMAN!
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
