Weird that they're not coming to Sweden this time. And even if they've saved a spot between Denmark and Finland for a gig in Stockholm it's still confusing why they wouldn't put it in the announcement. And if maybe they're having trouble with lication or something and it'll come later, then it's still confusing and in that case I'm wondering why they put the announcement out without having all the dates set.

I just read the announcement again and it does say that "DREAM THEATER ANNOUNCE FIRST LEG OF THEIR EUROPEAN TOUR" which could indicate that there'll be a second leg... I guess.

Can we keep discussion of the tour to the Concerts section?

Anyway, can't wait to hear MM's drum parts, I think they were a little dull on ADTOE, possibly because JP constructed the basics.

Absolutely agree on that. Can't wait to hear Mike flex his musical muscles a bit on this record

Yeah, that'll probably be for the best.

And yeah, I'm really looking forward to hearing MM's drumming on DT as well. While I do think that some of the stuff on ADToE was highly impressive from a technical point of view the drumming overall was a bit too anonymous if you ask me. It's really cool how well he compliments the other instruments and how he utilizes his monstrous kit and its dynamic range to emphasize what's going on melodically but I want the drums to hog the limelight every now and then.  :metal

Considering the fan acceptance during the last Tour and that this time he has been part of the writing process, I am quite confident that we will hear some flashy drumming. I would be surprised if they didn't unleash the genie on this album.

Mastering is faster than mixing, since it's not a creative process but a technical one. If they're done/almost done with the mixing, I think they will likely finish the mastering and all stuff by the end of this week.
Absolutely. Mastering an album can easily be done in a day, so as soon as the mix is finished the record is technically just one day from being done. End of this week with everything would seem fair, they should be at the very end of the mixing process by now. I just hope they've added 3 dB of bass this time, the bass has been too buried in the mix for like 10 years now except for certain parts of certain songs.
Yeah. That would be more than appreciated. The guy is shy but quite talented, let's give him the sound he deserves.

Just thinking about a studio session DVD, it could also be of special ACOUSTIC arrangements of DT12 songs.  I've always wanted them to do an Unplugged-type CD/DVD doing songs like Silent Man, etc.  Acoustic or electric, it would be fun to see them play in a small room with little reverb.

1.- A double conceptual album.
2.- An instrumental crazier than TDOE.
3.- More than one Myung lyric song.
4.- An epic 20 minutes song.
5.- Mangini and Myung higher in the mix.
6.- Amazing symphonic parts.
7.- Classical and tasty Jordan arrangements.
8.- No more Hugh Syme in the artwork.

That`s what I want.

What if it was a conceptual self-titled album, which told the history and evolution of the band?

Hi everyone! so happy to be here!! this thread will enter in history and thanks to this I've discovered I'm not so addicted about DT like you ;D

I wanna start with a pic that I think it's not been posted yet, from Eren's fb profile

'In the end of conducting/recording my arrangements for the upcoming Dream Theater album, with Jordan Rudess, John Petrucci and richard chycki · studio. In the middle is Misha, the concertmaster for the orchestra.

I think it's a very brave statement to name the album self-titled, and I'm very very happy, grateful and amazed to be a part of this chapter of DT.'

and a link to something familiar for you:

p.s. I live in a small city in Tuscany and the song TCoT is set 40 mins from here

Any specific reason to think that it was Count Capponi? Tuscany is littered with counts and castles, the assumption so far was that the Count of Tuscany does not refer to an actual existing or historical person.

So I was thinking. Last time, when they finished working on their album, DT pretty much went on tour right away, touring the whole summer in Europe, then starting the actual Dramatic Tour. This time, they're not starting their tour until January. What are they going to be doing in the mean time? Focus on side projects? Take it easy? Or work on some other DT stuff, like YTSEJAM releases and maybe a one off "A Night With DT" show or two?

...What?!

It's really, really famously a story that actually happened to John Petrucci. We've known that since before the album was released! There are tens of interviews vouching for his existence.

But for what it's worth, specific reasons include the fact that he lives in a mansion amongst Italian vineyards, has a bearded, historian brother who is a Hannibal Lecter expert (and acted as a consultant on the film), and that he is a Count.

What's the story? There's a major gap in the lyrics...
"I raised the baby, I changed the baby's diapers.  Whenever the baby had projectile diarrhea, I was there in the line of fire.  I even got a little in my mouth!  I sacrificed so much for my baby.  Now my baby hates me and thinks Mike Mangini is its real father!"

Among other interviews --

https://www.portalgotico.com/2009/06/entrevista-john-petrucci-dos-dream.html

PG - Can you tell us something about the Count of Tuscany?

Petrucci - Yeah, that's another example of a story that I shared, you know, something that happened to me that I would tell my friends and family but I never really wrote about it. Yeah, it's sort of hard to follow the story but it's basically a few years ago when Dream Theater were playing in Florence or something and there was my friend who is my guitar tech, he's also wine importer, so he wanted to visit a winery in Tuscany, so he asked me if I wanted to come along. So, yeah, the guy who owned the winery is a count, he wasn't the count of Tuscany, he is a count of something, anyway he brought us to this winery, it was a very old castle in the hills of Italy, it was very bizarre, you know just really weird stories the guy told, you know, like a mummified saint and a chapel, very strange and weird, I thought it would be great to tell that story, probably make a movie of it!

I would say there's of course a chance it is that guy, but having a beard and being in the wine business isn't exactly a dead-on distinguishing feature when you own a castle in Italy, is it?
