I don't think the tour and the single have much impact on one another. Could be wrong, but I reckon a single's pretty assured, at this point. It's marketing for the disc, not the gigs - and it is one of the very most effective ways of generating a buzz, and showing the potential buyers that they'll actually enjoy what they're gonna buy.

Well, let's make a bet then shall we :) 100 DTF-points to the winner! You bet for a single released before the album, and I bet that there will be no single before the release of the album.

BTW, this is a bet I really hope I lose!  ;D
100 DTF-points? You're on!
Chwick obviously has more DTF points than he knows what to do with!
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

There will be no tracklist until mid-August.

Cover will be released early September.

As for single, that won't happen for this album (and once the album is released, you'll know why).

If it's true, that's a very interesting statement :)

It would be interesting indeed...but I doubt it's true

A self titled concept album?  Hmm... that doesn't seem to make sense in my brain.

It doesn`t sound weird to me.

What if the subject matter of the album IS the band? Their hardships, their successes, their VERY SONGS...

Calling it now people, we're getting a song within a song on this album.

HolyHell's self titled debut appears to be a concept album.

Infinita Symphonia's self titled second album is a concept album also, and is quite good.

There will definitely be a single.  There is always a single.  I have no idea why anyone would say otherwise.

Can we just sticky this as its own thread? I'm officially betting my entire post count right here and now that there will be a single before the album comes out.

I'm sure there will be a single, but I don't really see them releasing it anytime this month. I'm sure they released OTBOA this early last time was because they were gonna do the summer festivals and they wanted to unveil a new song. (and so MM could play one of 'his' songs)

I don't think it will be this month. If we're lucky we'll get a tracklist. The single will most likely be next month, if not maybe early August.

I think it'd be even cooler if it told another story, but the whole story was a metaphorical representation of what you stated.

Single? Well DT was single for a while until they found Mike Mangini
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Some day I'll get married, and then get divorced. And then I'll get married again, and during my vows, I'll say, "I have finally found my Mike Mangini. I would like to, at this point, welcome you to the family."

Just imagine Roadrunner anouncing this tracklist in some weeks:

Scene 1.
Scene 2.
Scene 3...

Not necessarily Metropolis Pt.3.

It can be about anything.

4. mp3

Hey, this might explain the lack of keyboard solos - .mp3 and .jpg for example are so heavily compressed that the solos were lost in the process! On the other hand, .txt is so limited that you just can't put a keyboard solo there.

MP3 would sound a lot more like SC, and there would be growling (by the new Mike) and aspects of death/black metal.

If it IS a concept album, it would lend credence to the idea that their opening track, written after the rest of the album, will be a sort of overture of sorts, containing themes and motifs used later in the album. Doing the overture/opening track at the end ensures that they know what's going on with the rest of the music and can dissect the rest of the tracks to pick parts for an overture.

Also, many of their instrumentals have also been parts of concepts; "Erotomania" in "A Mind Beside Itself" was a sort of overture, SFAM had 2 instrumentals one of which was an overture, and "Six Degrees" overture contained many themes used throughout the whole piece.

I think we're looking at a 9-song concept album with an overture and an instrumental somewhere in the middle. However, it'll be unlike their other albums in that not only is it a concept album but it also has a longer epic on it. It might be like if SFAM had an ACOS/8VM-like piece in the middle of it. Could be interesting, especially if "epic" in their working titles means a song around 20 minutes long, but I'd be more than happy if it was 10-15 minutes long, especially if this IS a concept album meant to be heard in its entirety, I wouldn't mind 9 songs of varying length between 2-15 minutes long, as long as most of them are relatively long.

It's a concept about Kevin Moore. The final song on the album is titled "I'll Never Be Open Again".

It's a concept album about not being a concept album at all, and part of the concept is that none of the lyrics or music will be related at all.
