Well it has to be at least as good as Awake, seeing as that's the album they've rewritten this time, right?

Makes sense, first it was Awake Theater, now it's Dream Theater.

There will be 12 tracks, with one song split into two tracks; or there will be an intro track, with no music, maybe sound effects or dialogue.
or maybe 11 songs, and one bonus track, bring it to 12 tracks. This would keep the full circle going.

What's all this chocolate cake that everyone is talking about? Did I miss something?

In the announcement video, there's a picture of a chocolate cake tapped up in the studio with the caption: "The guitar must sound like THIS." John wanted his tone to sound "multi-layered, rich and with a perfect amount of icing on the top."

I'm going to go out on a completely unlikely limb here and say that the multi-layered blah blah blah explanation was a veiled attempt at saying "Gimme Eddie's famed "brown sound" from Van Halen 1".  Chocolate = brown.  VH1 = Tonal Holy Grail.

Boy, that would be nice but unfortunately JP is way too much in love with ultra-modern sounding guitars. I wish he would switch back to Ibanez or a Gibson and go for that old sound.

Self-titled huh.......nice. It makes perfect sense to call it that, especially since 6DOIT DT haven't really sounded like DT. Those albums had their influences on their sleeves. So, going by that logic, this may very well be as good as I&W and Scenes.


And I bet blob wouldve preferred if the album was called chocolate cake. Honestly, it makes me laugh people get that upset about an album being self-titled calling it uninspired, well let the music speak then judge it on being uninspired, calling it something else wouldve been uninspired and cheesy. But then you can't please everyone especially on the internet.

I was under the impression that they weren't touring this year, but the "World Tour to be announced soon" gives me a different vibe. Would they really announce dates for next year this early?

It has, but so many bands in the past couple years have done this.

why wasn't the last one self titled seeing as that was the 'new start' or whatever?

Maybe they thought it would've been a bit disrespectful towards MP? Besides, now that Mangini is in the writing process, the new album is a total group effort, so it was better to wait until now.
