It better not be self titled. :tdwn No album but a debut should ever be self titled.
Tell that to Metallica  :hat

Nobody in the world calls that album "Metallica", or self titled anyway. It is The Black Album.
And considering one reason I hate self titled albums is because they're lazy, the equally uninspired album cover of that album really doesn't help the cause at all. :lol

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

It hasn't even been officially announced yet. Can people not wait five more hours to start complaining?

Have RR confirmed that they are making an announcement today?

11 AM EST, and 6 PM whatever time zone it is in Italy. Do the math for wherever you're at.

So 4 hours 8 minutes from now, unless my math fails me, which is entirely possible.

Perhaps a few years from now we'll be calling DT12 'the Purple Album'

I wasn't trying to imply it wasn't. All I'm saying is that bands shouldn't do it, not that they don't. It's a lazy and bad name for the album, and that's probably why nobody calls it that.
Also, it's black. That sort of helps. :lol

No, that's correct. Jesus, what time will it be over (down) there?

Only 1am. I'll of course be up. :blob:

ACOS doesn't count, not a studio album

In other news I'm not happy with the self titled idea, its not their style, they have intelligent titles that are majestic (intended) I hope this isn't the case

I don't know, I think 'Dream Theater' is a better title than 'A Dramatic Turn of Events' and 'Systematic Chaos'.

I think the report posted by nikatapi is legit. The website is trustworthy and some of the editors personally know some current and ex members of the band. I hope we get the tracklist today as well, a sinle in July and tons of promotion interviews in August!

ADTOE isn't too good a title, true, but Systematic Chaos is great. It sounds good when you pronounce it and it fits DT's mix of heavy metal insanity and strong music theory background.

I liked them titles, SC beong an oxymoron and 'A dramatic turn of events' is good, its better than saying 'stuff happened'

Not sure how I feel about it being self-titled... And is there any chance we might still get a track list, or is this most likely the extent of the announcement?

I think they would have held off announcing anything and waited a few weeks if they didn't have a track listing now.

No, I think the self-titled option is a lot better than just calling your album some generic description of your music. Like, "Systematic Chaos", or some literal description of what your album is about, like "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" or "Black Clouds & Silver Linings".

Plus, at this point in DT's career, self-titled makes sense. It's kinda like... a renewed commitment to the post-MP lineup. This IS Dream Theater. It says that the Dream Theater playing and touring now is the real DT, the best DT, the only DT, as opposed to the DT with Kevin Moore or Mike Portnoy. In that sense, it's kinda ballsy. I like it.

If their 12th album is self-titled, I propose the following as fan-wide abbreviations:
DT12 (likely to be the most common)
DTwelve
D12 (pronounced Dee Twelve, like the dice)

Either way, I too like the idea of a self-titled album at this point. Interviews with the members point to a very unified band feeling now, with everyone on the same page as far as musical and technical prowess and skill. They're more DT than DT has been, and if the album lives up to the hype, I think it would be a cool move to name the album Dream Theater. What'll be more confusing is if there's a TRACK called "Dream Theater". Then we could say, in one sentence - Hey, did you like "Dream Theater" by Dream Theater on their album Dream Theater?

I disagree with every single bit of that post.

It's not ballsy, it's pretentious and presumptuous for the very reasons stated, not to mention it's becoming a terrible cliche.
And it's not even a name at all. It is literally the complete lack of a name. Systematic Chaos is a cool name. Self titled is nothing.

Αgreed about liking the self-titled idea.
It's very clever that they're doing it now, since it seems like it's a very collaborative effort, with MM bringing his knowledge and musical ideas on the table.

Seriously, i believe this is going to be "the new SDOIT", just like SDOIT was an amazing album with JR bringing his energy and musicality freed from any expectations unlike SFAM, this time having MM on the board.
Probably DT are very confident about the quality of this album, it is a bold move to name the album this way.

I don't know, I've always liked DT's titles. I mean, Octavarium is a brilliant title. I would be really disappointed if the rumour turns out to be true.

I'm not crazy about the album being self-titled... but if we get new music I can't imagine that it'll bother me that much.
