I should send that to my friend and make him believe that is really the album cover and title.

I just checked my sources, and...well, believe it or not, that actually is the REAL album cover and title.  I even found one of the stock photos they are using for inside the booklet.

Well, that's the stock photo. The actual photo they will use is this one:

It'll tie in where SDOIT left off. Or rather, reach in where SDOIT left off.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Possible new DT album cover:

It was in Hugh Syme's portfolio and it doesn't really say anything about it.

The transition between the smooth and the raw part is not really handled well. Unless that's intentional. And I'm sure that there is something wrong with the perspective and the relative sizes o the three guys on the right.

It's not the correct aspect ratio for a cover, and not quite right for booklet art either. It doesn't even match the style of Syme's work for DT. I don't at all think this is anything DT related.

This. I just saw the picture and thought it MIGHT be something related, but I doubt it now. Unless they use the big black bars on the top and bottom.

Which is why I've always kinda been amused by MP's idea that the album was bad because the label wouldn't let them do a double album. Even though most of the outtakes are better than songs which actually made the record, listening to the FII demos in their entirety is an absolute chore, so I have a hard time believing that better production and mastering alone would make them that much better. .

I couldn't disagree more.  And MP's main problem was the label/producer interference in the songs themselves, not a desire to do a double album.

True, but almost all of the changes made by the producer were either for the better or made the song no worse.

Again, I couldn't disagree more.  No songs were improved from the demos, IMO.

I have to agree with Kev. I was pretty shocked when I got my copy of the demos, only to realize that they're much the same as the studio album, or different in worse ways. I do agree that stronger material was left off the album while weaker material was allowed to stay on.

I agree with Kev on this one (mark the date on the calendar).

Almost everything on the final album of FII is either slightly better or equal to the demo, and the album certainly didn't need more songs. None of the cut tracks make me think "gee, this should have made the album", even though I don't mind a couple of them. If anything, I'd only cut one or two songs from the album, and that for me would be the best FII could be. And I already place the album 4th, so I don't mean that negatively at all.

The minor changes resulted in a few of the songs having tighter arrangements that suited the music better, and Hell's Kitchen being free of BMS. The only change that I might restore is the extra section of LITS, and that song is so damn good either way that I don't consider it a huge loss. And TAMP and YNM aren't great songs in any arrangement.

So, i saw this on Twitter and made me think we could get an album title-tracklisting for the new album:

*counts* Dream Theater has 5 vowels!

They do usually announce these things pretty soon after completing recording, so it's not unrealistic.

Those covers... :lol

I also agree that most of the changes FII songs went through were for the better, or at least not for the worse - only TAMP was better in its original form IMO, and You Not Me doesn't include the awesome keyboard part from You Or Me that could've made it a bit better.

I'd guess tracklisting and release date, but maybe a bit early for artwork? You'd think they'd announce a new album with artwork though. I can't remember what the case was with the last few albums, so maybe I'm wrong.
