True, but it kind of renders LALP obsolete if DT12 comes out before it.  Eh... could just be my weird brain though...

Probably. One is a studio album, the other is a convert DVD, they're both vastly different experiences.

So you're saying it's being released in a different format? :neverusethis:

Not really obsolete, but a lot of us were looking forward to Live at Luna Park to fill our "new DT" fix while waiting for the new album.  If the concert vid doesn't come out until after the new album, which is what it's looking like now, then it's like we'll have the new album and be listening to it a lot and all that, and then later this vid comes out of the tour from the previous album, nearly two years prior.  It'll just be kinda weird.

Eh, I don't see the big deal if the next studio album comes out before the Luna Park Blu-Ray/DVD. Besides, if the album is out and they are already starting touring when the Luna Park release hits stores, that could drive up sales of both, especially with the holiday season shortly thereafter.

Plus if album 12 makes a lot of new fans - then a DVD comes out shortly after - they're gonna want to check that out - and then maybe go see them on tour after that as well.

All of your points are good.

I don't care which comes out first. DT12 would be the first new album to come out while I'm a fan of the band, after all, I didn't become a real fan of DT until the early summer of 2012.

I was looking up Rush-related radio on Last.fm, and this strange-named song (Octavarium) came on, and I listened to it for a while.

Talk about immersion.

It definitely doesn't render Luna Park obsolete.

Porcupine Tree's Anesthetize DVD came after The Incident hit the stores, it isn't really as apocalyptic as some people make it look like.

I don't see any problem with when they come out relative to each other. One is a live album of material everyone knows, but hasn't heard these live renditions, one is a studio album of new material nobody has heard before. If the live album comes out after the album, it's not going to matter.
One does not impact the other, unless someone happens to be strapped for cash and can only afford one in a certain time period. If anything, it would keep the interest high for a little while having both released around the same time.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

What if they experience some audio problems with the studio tracks? Are they gonna overdub?

I can't believe the new album is gonna come out before the ADTOE dvd.  Seems backwards.  But what can ya do.  Can't wait to get some info (song titles, artwork, song clips etc.) for the new album!  I'm sure it's gonna be amazing, as always.

True, but these same fans could balk if there's nothing from DT12 on LALP.

HOWEVER - I also understand the point about The Incident and the Anesthetize DVD.  Just... don't mind me, I'll shut up about it. :)

People how pointed it out multiple times how Porcupine Tree had a similar situation and it wasn't a big deal. You know what? I'm happy we got a release date for the DVD and that the new album is essentially finished and that we'll get a release date for that soon. That's all I could ask for. I just don't care when they come out in relation to each other because it really does not matter, considering they will likely be spaced at least a month or two apart from each other.

EDIT: Does anyone know who will be mixing/mastering this album and what a general timeframe would look like in order to get the mixing/mastering finished (in general)?

I'm guessing a month for mix / master.

I think the Album will be out late August - Mid September.

I'm even more excited for the album now! As long as they both come out I will be happy. In order to curb my DT hunger, I may decide to purchase the Bucharest official bootleg and have that be my "new DT" until the album.

Maybe the DVD was delayed to add footage of recording the album, or maybe a new music video?

Exactly. It's not very hard being a DT fan.

It didn't seem that long ago I was buying SC when it came out or looking up the track titles for BC&SL when that came out.

This is a band who lost a founder member and STILL put out a new album within two years.

When Jason quit Metallica - they didn't even look for a replacement for two years. . .

What if they decide to always put more stuff on it because there's always something new? Will that mean there will be a 30-box set at the end of their career? Will the box set be a large black monolith with the dimensions 1:4:9?
