Well JP should be tracking solos by now and James will probably start tracking vocals soon. I think this upcoming week may be DT's last in the studio. Almost there!

So, about the new album...

We don't even know the title of the album, the songs, or the new artwork, there's no reason for us to speculate. :neverusethis:

It will be called "12:21" and the whole album will be a palindrome.

" For our twelfth studio album - we decided to look into the concept of mirror images. Maybe the whole album could be a palindrome.

We wrote 37 and a half minutes of music and then reversed the entire thing in Pro Tools and learned the music for real. "

" We thought it would be a very interesting idea and bring new meaning to the concept of the mirror now that Portnoy is longer in the band going on and on and on about mirror this and mirror that." Jordan Rudeess said in an interview with The Daily Mirror.

" It's called '12:21' and as a result - we didn't want to rush this one like we have done in the past ." Jordan went on to say.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/

For the artwork - so-called artist Hugh Syme looked in a mirror and took a photo. He then smothered it in stock images and charged his usual fee.

I better stay out of this thread for a few pages, otherwise I'll say some offensive things that might get me banned...
That seems kind of silly.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I'm also expecting a concept album from the guys this time. Don't know why! Labrie said not long ago they were considering that option as long as the final product was at least similar to SFAM.

Plus MP said him and JP were planning on making the follow up to BC&SL a concept album, but we all knew what happened then...

A concept DOUBLE album.

That will explain why they've taken 2 weeks longer to write it ;D

"Never Odd Or Even" would be the single from 12:21.  And it wouldn't have any odd or even measures.  :metal

Since we're speculating about song names now, I'll just take mine from https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=35334.msg1578299#msg1578299:

Clouds Above the Castle

CD 1:

1: Angel in Disguise (10:12)
2: Red Trees/Diseased/Globes of Light (15:29) *story, lyrics by JM*
3: Wooden War (4:59)
4: Rain Over Mountains (5:26) *ballad*
5: Frozen Winds (8:12)
6: Stared Down (6:59)
7: Overcast (10:12)
8: The Time is Now Again (4:42)

CD 2: (concept side)
1: Dusk's Departure (7:54)
It becomes pitch black outside as midnight approaches.

2: Iron Stampede (6:13)
*instrumental* Nightly train ride.

3:Clouds Above the Castle (24:11)
   i Forest Silhouette (4:51)
A silhouette of a castle is spotted after exiting the train, we go to investigate.
   ii Lamplight (7:05)
*Think the very beginning of Crimson Sunrise would sound like this* There are lamps around the castle.
   iii Candlelight (4:07)
*ballad* We take candles and are about to enter the castle.
   iv A Slow Entry (4:39)
We slowly enter the castle.
   v GHOSTS! (2:23)
GHOSTS!
   vi A Hasty Exit (1:06)
We quickly leave.

4: Deep Breath/Truce (9:15)
The ghosts meet us outside and apologize for scaring us. Of course we're free to go.

5: Dawn's Arrival (4:43)
*ballad* The sun can be seen.

I know it's only a pipe dream, but can you imagine the brouhaha it would create if KM played a guest solo on the new CD?

They've got far too much to make up for after ADTOE for me to tolerate that on top of it. More like a pipe bomb nightmare.

I couldn't stop chuckling.

But that's just REALLY impossible. Like, there's 0.00000000000001% chances of that happening, and it wouldn't really contribute to anything except the brouhaha :lol

The new album is going to by a music adaptation of the novel Les Miserables. They just felt that the story would probably lend itself well to music.
