Maybe they'll focus on headlining shows this time, or perhaps the festivals they'll play will be in late summer?

That would be quite the change, as the most famous festival dealing with prog music take place in the early summer season.

Just when we were trying to steer the discussion away from debating over albums... ::)

Anyway, I've noticed that a lot of festivals that will take place in August have already confirmed some bands and artists, so I don't think it's impossible that DT might skip the festivals completely this year, although there will probably be some headlining shows. Or who knows, maybe they've changed their plans and won't start touring until after the album has been released? I'm not saying this is likely, but the lack of gig announcements is weird, especially considering that some bands have confirmed tour dates for the fall already.

Portnoy is coming back an they are going to tour Prog Nation '14

I'm calling it
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

There aren't any festivals that DT would realistically play in August as far as I'm aware. And I think it's getting very late to be announced for any July festivals. It is very odd, because they've been touring in this way since 2005.

It is odd. They announced that they were playing at High Voltage 2011 even before they knew Mangini was their drummer.

So based on the timing, I assume we'll have a tracklist or at least an album title by this time next month?

I don't think that's true.  Mangini was in the band as the new drummer for like six months before we the public knew it.

We should check the bill of the festivals we know DT will likely want to headline/play. Actually, are we sure there wil evenl be an High Voltage 2013? Last year they skipped a beat for the olympics.

I don't think they'll play any of the festivals they visited 2 years ago (except maybe one or two) - those who organize the events probably don't want to book the same bands every second year, especially if they are big names.

Yes, this makes sense. What about the Night Of The Prog? Is their bill complete already?

And there's no High Voltage again this year. I really can't see them playing any festivals. Maybe they'll start with a headlining North American leg in August/September.

It's probably the easiest to talk about too, because it's currently relevant, without giving away anything crucial about the album. So he doesn't have to worry about whether the label would allow him to say this or that. What does the label care if he tells people how he set up his equipment?

It's a disappointing question for one who isn't a guitar player and doesn't understand what the hell he's talking about.

I love hearing guitar players talk about their EQ. So many metal players just turn the gain up and scoop out the mids. That's so boring, and makes the guitar sound indiscernable. So, I love hearing good metal guitar players talk about how they get their sounds.

I'd rather hear it in dumb speak though. Like, instead of saying, "I turned this up, and turned this down", I'd rather hear him say what exactly he's trying to achieve with that, like, "This way, it gets a much fuller sound," or "This way, it sounds a lot more crunchy and sharp," or "I was trying to go for a warmer, more organic tone" you know, stuff like that.

Yeah, really. Out of all of them, I could say Jordan is the best in drawing you into what he talks about even if you're not previously interested, and I rarely find myself unable to understand it.

It's like when MM is going

" so i'm grouping my left side in 7s and my right side in 9s but doing triplets in 11 with my feet and matching up after 17 bars . "

All I hear is :

" you suck you suck you suck you suck you suck you suck - give up now "
