The writing aspect was done by March 2nd for ADTOE.

I think they may have written the new album quicker this time around since all of them are in the studio at once and they will be able to hammer out songs a lot quicker this time without having to wait for Mangini to come in and track or for Petrucci to program drums to a certain part they wrote, etc.
Where would YOU be without prog?!
I'd be standing somewhere with dignity, respect, and bitches.

Well, the time can vary, but I hope they took the time to let it all sing, and not rush any aspects of the songwriting. I would gladly trade two months with a more sensible approach, would it be the case. :)

Writing for Awake was done in 3-4 weeks.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Yeah, that's even shorter than what I posted.

By the way, regarding the new album. Am I the only one who does NOT want them to release little teasers for every song? They really spoiled it for me with Dramatic Turn... But at the same time, I couldn't resist listening to them.

I liked that they released those snippets, and would not mind in the least if they did it again. They were a hell of a lot better than the mess they released as a teaser for BC&SL, too.

I don't remember what that teaser was.

Personally, I'd rather just get the single beforehand. Maybe ONE other teaser, but not the entire album. That's a little excessive, I think.

I hear you, it was exactly like that for me. Didn't want to spoil the experience of listening to the album the first time by already having heard various segments of the songs but I couldn't resist playing the crap out of those teasers on YouTube. I wouldn't mind seeing a video interview similar to the one they did for ADTOE in which JLB and JP talked about the songs on the album but I don't really want to hear different parts of the songs before the release. Sure, I do realize that all I have to do is stay away from any teasers but hey... I'm only human.

Yeah, for sure. Frankly, I'd love to get as much 'talking' about the album as possible. They could give us 20 minute interviews on the kinds of sounds they went for in each individual song. The kinds of moods they were going for, the lyrics, etc. But I don't want to actually hear them until I get the final product.

If they end up releasing the snippets again, I'm going to have to do my darndest to avoid them. While all you bastards will be discussing them on here, talking about how awesome they are...   :-\

I think they should release snippets. It's really up to you whether you listen to them or not, so I don't think everyone should have to miss out.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Well, if the snippets do get released, there should be like a thread dedicated to the snippets, and no mention of them anywhere else. I don't want to randomly stumble on another thread.... I dunno, comparing MP to MM for the umpteenth time or something, and have someone be like, "Take that drum fill from the snippet, it's so much better than" etc. etc. etc.

Well, as far as I remember, we had a designated thread for talking about the twelfth album too, then someone made this thread based on a tweet/interview/something and the "designated" thread sunk to the second page or something, so I wouldn't hold my breath about people respecting that if I were you :lol

If you're really inspired, you can write a masterpiece in no time; if you are not in a creative mood, it could take you months before putting together something decent.

Speaking of time, I also think that creating a work (whatever kind it might be) is like shooting an arrow. If you are too hasty, you won't get any strength or precision, but on the other hand, if you wait too much as you try to get the perfect aim, you will loose the right time for the shot. In other terms, you will overdo it.

Theorem 1: In every official DT update or whatever form of communication on social media there will always be one or more (or infinite) messages saying "DT PLS COAM TO INDONESIA". Even if the band had come to Indonesia one weak earlier.

Theorem 2: In every official MP update or whatever form of communication on social media there will always be one or more (or infinite) messages from someone who is not sure but hopeful that MP is still in DT. There's also a 100% chance that said comment will feature the topos "DT/MP PLEAS COAM TO INDONESIA"

 :lol

(with all due respect to the huge amount of scaringly loving Indonesian fans  :tup )
Okay, thanks for explaining, that's pretty much what I thought myself. I do feel a hit sorry for that Twitter guy though. :D

Jordan's gear is looking awesone as usual. And when it comes to snippets, I'd definitely listen to them if such were available. However, I think it would be nicer not to get spoiled beforehand. I just know myself well enough to know that I won't be able to resist the temptation to listen if they happen to relase something.

I cannot wait to hear what the next ablum will sound like with Mangini's input. aDToE was an amazing album and probably my favorite since SDoIT, but I cannot wait to hear his input in the writing process.

I haven't listened to the new Amorphis single more than once, so I think I might be able to do the same with the new songs and snippets DT may release before the album itself. Resistance is not as hard as it seems :neverusethis:

That's them been in the studio for more than ten weeks now they must be nearly finished now  :coolio
The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consonant and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese.
