Will The Canadian Rap finally make its studio debut?

I'm just curious how this album will differ in terms of sound from their previous works.
I think every DT album has a distinct sound, and something different about it, even if some people claim that the past few have all 'sounded the same'. So I'm curious as to what this one will be like.

^this. I don't think that the last few albums sounded the same, but BC&SL and SC both sounded similar to each other and, to a less extent, to ToT.

Nice to see a 12 string acoustic guitar.  :hefdaddy

But it seems I'm struck with some sort of alzheimer , because I can't remember the last time JP used a 12 string acoustic guitar on a studio album.  ???

Anyway, can't say I'm less excited after seeing that photo.  :metal

Wasn't the last time he used a 12 string guitar on Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence for Solitary Shell?

Octavarium.

In the song or on the album?

Either way, it could be taken as a good sign. The use of a 12 string usually means something great is on the way.  :tup

I could've believed this as being from the late 90s if it weren't for the receding hairline.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

12-string is on the song Octavarium under the flute during the first vocal section.

But I think he has used 12-string on most albums, although usually just for layers of sound.

Speaking of JP's eyebrows, it seems to me someone has had a bit of fun in photoshop. Because I can't see any "bags" under his eyes either. And according to the previous photo on his facebook-page, he should have a pair of it.

It's just weird lighting, angle and Instagram effects. In other words, DON'T WORRY GUYS, JP STILL HAS EYEBROWS.

False, JP shredded so hard that he entered killzone mode but the beams of death reflected off one of manginis cymbals and reflected back onto his eyebrows, a previous example of this is where JR lost all his hair...

The pic of Petrucci on the FB page makes him look sick. His face is drawn in and he just looks weak.  Hope it's just that crappy instagram nonsense.

JP looks as though he's slimmed out a bit in that pic, maybe he's cutting after the bulk he's gained?

Thanks Mike Mangini for the facts!
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
