Here he is giving the rundown on JP's rig for the 2011/2012 tour. It's very interesting.
Reminds me of the guy who plays Holley in The Wire ;D

I hope that they don't hire Andy Wallace again for the mix. He mixed ADTOE like an ordinary metal record and a lot of details on the music are lost because of that.

If anything, I feel like it wasn't mixed metal enough, and songs like BITS that should kick you in the face with awesomeness instead just whimper at your shins.
A metal mix would have had more upfront drums that were mixed properly with a strong kick and snare drum, and had gutsier guitars and bass. JLB's solo albums are what I could call a metal mix. ADTOE is a......... nothing mix. It literally does not sound like anyone mixed it to me.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

That was my main problem with AW's mixing on ADTOE. The intro to BITS should have hit me in the face like a train....
...it didn't....

I concur. That's one of the main reasons I'm so stoked for the live release, cause that song kicked my ass live.

If i'm not mistaken Richard Chycki had the engineering-mixing duties on James' Elements Of Persuation, and in my opinion it was a very good sounding record, massive sounding but still a clear mix.

So i'm optimistic about the new album's sound, if he is involved in those duties.

That's what I wrote earlier on, but noone paid attention. :sadpanda:

Not sure about who did EoP, but for SI, that's because Jens Bogren mixed it (with the help of Marco Sfogli) and mastered it. That dude doesn't fool around:

I've only heard Static Impulse, Ghost Reveries and Watershed.  Those albums do sound really clean/stellar though.

I just have to throw a mention in and say that whoever hasn't heard Bilateral yet definitely should. Not sure if you'll like it but I think it's a must-hear for prog fans. :hefdaddy

The same goes for Static Impulse and DT fans which are into metal, really.

Seconded. And I've not heard all of the albums from that list, but what I've heard sounds amazing.

Just Bilateral, the previous Leprous album contains too much growls for the classic prog fan :)

So does A Change of Seasons. Especially since my cousin's band is named Change of Season, which wasn't named after ACOS, and they became DT fans after forming! :rollin

I took your advice, and I'm about halfway through Bilateral now. And I must say I'm very impressed so far!  :metal

You should check out "Tall Poppy Syndrome" as well. It does have some death growl sections but the songwriting is very good.
I like to think that Leprous are a progressive version of System of a Down :metal

Just found out that Leprous are from Norway  That's what I would call a happy coincidence :tup

Although I wasn't disappointed in the ADTOE mix (it was a vast improvement on the previous few); I said before ADTOE came out it'd be awesome if Jens Bogren mixed/mastered it and my opinion hasn't changed for DT12 - he would make it sound huge!

Muddy sound on Clockwork Angels?!  Really?!?!  I couldn't tell - sounds great to me.

It could have been better.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.  I still love the record, but I do wish it had sounded a little better.

Clockwork Angels isn't exactly muddy, but it does have that dense, compressed sound that seems to be so popular these days.  You can hear most of the instruments well enough, but it still feels like there's no room for anything to breathe.
