I think you have to consider the artist.  Dream Theater don't strike me as the type to freak out about this kind of thing.  I think, if anything, they'd be impressed and amused by the ingenuity and dedication of their fanbase.

This. They have already shown that they adore their fans and I don't think something like this would ruin it for them.

Besides, and this is no slight to the transcriber, I expect us to actually have a hard time identifying the spot in the eventual tracks where this came from. A lot of variables unaccounted for.

I think that this MIDI thing is a fact that shows how much we love their music and tells them that we are looking forward to listen to their new album. That is more positive than negative, IMO.

I'm not reading 9 pages of what I missed - I kinda kept up anyway.

All I have to say (besides the whiteboard :metalol: ) is that I am REALLY looking forward to the new album.  Like MEGA stoked. :metal

Is there anyone who actually believes those are the real titles?

I believe that those are the real working titles.

Maybe it's semantics, but I consider them just place holders, because I doubt NADS was an actual "working title" for The Dark Eternal Night.

That's what a working title is. It's a title, you work with, before the lyrics are written.

no u

When I think working title, I think of a name in relation to the lyrics, but something that might change. NADS has nothing to do with the content of TDEN, so if they called it Grotesque Creature Battle first before changing it, that would be a working title. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's what I think.

That's fine, but it's just plain not what the phrase means!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_title

"Working titles are used primarily for two reasons - the first being that an official title has not yet been decided upon and the working title is being used as a filler for naming purposes, the second being a ruse to intentionally disguise the production of a project." There we go, filler for naming purposes. It's something artists call their products, in-studio, so they're not saying "Song 2" or "Untitled Project" all the itme.

It's a bit like objecting to me calling 28 Days Later a film cos it was shot digitally. I mean, fine, but "film" honestly does cover both.

A "working title" is a permit you get authorizing you to do work somewhere!

Best working title I usually recall is "Blue Harvest". Those who knows it will know what it is!

That little sound clip sounds like it would've fit in perfectly with Train of Thought. Endless Sacrifice's instrumental section comes to mind.

I couldn't get it to play in any of my usual media players, so I downloaded a specific midi player for it. It let me choose different 'instruments' to play the sequence through and I was sitting listening to it over and over with all these different sounds.  :lol I even recorded some of them and laid them all out in Audacity to make a 'song' out of them - had some bass, drums, guitar and synth all playing together and saved it as an MP3
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Wouldn't it be awkward if we all got so excited to hear that little midi thing in the actual album, and then they didn't end up including it

I would never want something like that. It would only agonize me just how far away the album still is.

About the whole transcribing possible backlash. Dream Theater once held a contest based on who could get the closest to Stream Of Consciousness and make their own version. Dream Theater provided charts i'm pretty sure. And while there weren't actual notes given I think, it's one of those things. Dream Theater knows what they're doing posting this stuff, lol they are aware of the fanbase. Plus, several former members and one current members' wife post on this message board. They'll let us know if they have a problem.

Just because that's a thing doesn't meant that's the reason DT named it that. Family Guy named their SW spoof Blue Harvest too.

That MIDI clip was awesome!  I was thinking somebody might try putting one together.  I viewed it in synthesia so you can see the keys and the sheet music too.  Can't wait for this album!

Damn that would have been so funny if the first reply to that picture was simply "It's too big, I need something smaller" rather than "any way to make that bigger?"... It is really too bad no one thought of that right away.
