Symphony X "Iconoclast" alternative song order
« on: December 31, 2012, 11:49:20 AM »
If you have the 2CD version of the album, play the songs in this order:

1. Electric Messiah
2. Iconoclast
3. The End of Innocence
4. Prometheus (I Am Alive)
5. Dehumanized
6. Light Up the Night
7. Bastards of the Machine
8. The Lord of Chaos
9. Heretic
10. Reign in Madness
11. Children of a Faceless God
12. When All is Lost

I discovered this when my iPod screwed up the tags and I swear the album flows SO much better this way. The transition from Reign in Madness to Children of a Faceless God is particularly awesome.

Should try this out later. Even though i didn't quite like the album, closing the album with When All Is Lost is just epic.

That looks alright, but it reminds me of the old saying about putting lipstick on a pig.

But Iconoclast isn't a pig.

Seriously, I'm going to defend that album until my face turns blue. I do agree When All Is Lost should've been the closer for the full album though.

Rightfully so, it's a great album. I seriously don't get the hate, the riffs crush concrete.

It is a good album, but not great. Too much chugga-chug. One more track in the vein of When All is Lost would have made it much more balanced.

Well, it's a matter of perspective apparently. It's my favorite SX album precisely because of the chugga-chug--it just has more balls and less cheese than their previous efforts. It makes me think of Pantera a lot, which is one hell of a good thing.

When All Is Lost is a monster of a song, one of their best. The rest of the album is sub-par, have not invited to many further listens.

Iconoclast is a really good album and energized the whole way through. I do however, wish they would tap into more dynamic songs like When All Is Lost, Paradise Lost, Accolade 2, etc.  Songs like that are my fav side of Symphony X..

Well, okay then...er...maybe "putting lipstick on a decent-looking female body builder, who responds to any given confrontation by brutally punching her opponent in the throat, to which you initially respond by going, 'whoa!   :o  That's friggin' brutal!  I love it!' but then you realize that that's the only thing she ever does, and she also speaks in a monotone without ever changing her voice inflection even the tiniest bit, and she only talks about one subject over and over again, so after being with her ten minutes, you quickly get bored and are ready to move on to something else.  But lipstick."  More accurate?

EDIT:  Oh yeah, and I like the alternate track listing.  My work computer did that as well, so that's how I've been listening to the album for awhile now.

Part of the group that loves this album. I think it kicks ass, love the brutality of it.

Eh, I own their entire catalog and this album gets the least amount of spins.   It's far too one-dimensional.   Symphony X is off my automatic buy list.  Sorry.
