Nice Job ResultsMayVary!  :metal :metal  If this thread could get a few more bikers in it or at least to log their mileage here we'd be on the way for sure!
Thanks! I will try to help as much as I can. I bet more people like myself will stumble upon this thread like I just did 15 minutes ago.

I did four miles on the elliptical last night, and 4.5 miles tonight (and I'll call it that because it's less than the miles to hours ratio given in the prior post..plus I did run for some of it...so I'm calling it as it actually is  :P)

Personal total:  12.5 miles

DTF total:  166.3 miles

I will try to update here when I can, but I'm currently training for the collegiate cycling season that starts in March. I'll start keeping track of my miles in this thread from here onward. I will include both outdoor rides and indoor trainer rides (both types of riding will be measured on my cyclocomputer for consistency).

1/8/2013:  Biked 47.3 miles outdoors. A bit of a chilly day in Columbus, but I got a nice ride done on the bike/running trails here.

Personal Total:  47.3 miles

DTF Total:  157.8 Miles

EDIT: Adjusted DTF total to include half of what I biked today, according to the OP.
I absolutely cannot wait for the cycling season to begin man, but the snowy/icy conditions here in Stockholm make it impossible to go before late March or April.

Yea, its still rather icy here as well. I took some serious chances yesterday and today riding outside. We had a major snow storm last week and some roads are still wet or have snow on them. I fell today once, but I got lucky yesterday.

ResultsMayVary, I don't know how you're even still alive after that.  Jesus Christ.
I've just been doing this for years, so I'm to the point where this is an easier day for me, especially since the weather is still crappy around here. But I had to get outside and take a break from my basement and my cycling trainer. Doing that for months makes you go crazy, so I've had to brave the elements. Once it gets warmer, I should be getting 80-100+ mile rides in. It is rather flat around here, so sometimes I can get into triple digits. Thank God where my parents live, however, there are some serious climbs and that is always fun to do!

1/9/2013: Outdoor ride in Columbus, OH. Very wet after raining this morning combining with melting snow made this an interesting ride. My pace suffered and I even fell once. No big deal, fortunately. I ended up doing 42.6 miles today.

Personal Total:  89.9 miles

DTF Total:  201.5 miles

Wow RMV! Nice contributions!

Yesterday, biked 13 miles.
Today, ran 3 miles.

Starting to get pretty sore in my legs. I want to make it to Sunday, though, which I have designated as my rest day.

Biking: 34 miles
Running: 19 miles

DTF Total: 211 miles

1/9/2013 - 6 Mile Trail Run at Mastadon State Park.......or should I say a 6 mile dexterity check given the amount of mud, slick rock and leaf boobie traps I had to navigate. But that's what's fun about trail runs! :metal

Thank you. Instead of doing a rest day, you should do a very low-key ride or run to at least get the muscles moving. That always worked better for me than not doing anything. I always felt better getting back into a more difficult ride if I took it extremely easy on my off day.

Hm sage advice. So, keep Sunday as a complete rest day, but maybe take Thursday and Friday a little easier? Maybe 30 minutes on each of those days rather than an hour? Then go back to normal on Saturday.

I'm not sure. It's different for everyone. You just got to find what works for you and allows you to recover enough energy to get back into tougher rides/runs. For me, I just do a warm up and cool down back-to-back on my rest day. I do a warm-up/cool down every day anyway, but with a ride in between on each day but my off day. 20-30 minutes of easy activity to get the muscles moving should do just fine. I usually do 5 days of tough riding and 2 days of "resting" each week. It changes every week since 7 is a hard number to establish a good pattern with. I do a 3-1-2-1 routine:  3 days of tough rides, 1 day of "rest," 2 days of tough rides, and 1 day of "rest."

If you're really sore, I would do the two easier days in a row, so you can get a better workout in on Saturday. And then a rest day on Sunday could allow you to start the week strong on Monday. Set a goal for the week a bit higher and see how that works.

Today I have to rest. My legs are not really sore, but they feel worn down. They feel all stretched out and tired. So I'm taking today off.

1/11/13:  Great outdoor ride today. Sunny and above 60 degrees and I loved every minute of it. Ended up doing 76.1 miles overall, even though I felt like I left miles out there I could have gone for. Really starting to feel the affects of getting wore out. I got to keep pushing myself if I want to improve during the cycling season this year.

Personal Total:  180.2 miles

DTF Total:  292.7 miles

What's the conversion for having three small kids wrapped around you as you walk them around the indoor lazy river at our Rec Center? Holy Cow! 2 1/2 hours in the friggin pool playing with my kiddos and I stepped out and felt like I'd just ran a marathon!

Thanks!  I was actually up to ~5.5 miles, mostly on dirt paths in the park with lots of terrain, but then the hurricaner f'ed up both the park and any semblance of order in life for a while.  Getting back on the horse now, though.  Want to use moderation, however...I'm prone to shin splints, and don;t want to overdo it, as that will just set me way back (this is why I do so much elliptical, as there's no impact).

The wife and I are doign Warrior Dash with some friends in August, so I have that as an overall fitness goal.  The cardio part isn't a concern, but I have a lot of lifting and pullups to do between now and then.

I started trail running two springs ago and have been in love with it ever since. Something about running/jogging through the woods...navigating the terrain that is more rewarding in a way. I leave the iPod in the car on trail runs and just enjoy the peace of it. Running in my second half marathon trail run on March 10th...first one was definately a lot different than a road half marathon.
