1. Scenes from a memory
Not just Dream Theater's best work - this album is the masterpiece of progressive metal genre. Brilliant from begining to the end, not a single bad moment. And also a hard album to pick a favorite song from...
2. Images and words
Although I dislike the cheesy ballads here (Another day and Surrounded), the rest of the album is wonderful. Metropolis and Pull me under were my immediate favorites, and stayed to this day.
3. Systematic chaos
Hugely underrated. I know why some fans dislike this album, but I guess that it grows on you after a while. I'm sure that time will show how great this album actually is.
4. Awake
Very dark and haunting. I don't know why don't they perform more songs from this album in recent years. Space-dye vest is my personal favorite. James LaBrie is at his best here.
5. Six degrees of inner turbulence
The title track is just fantastic. The first CD takes some time to get into it. Very diverse and interesting, with many different influences notable.
6. Train of thought
Dream Theater's true metal album. My least favorite on this release is ironicaly the most popular one, As I am. Some horrible nu metal and rap elements can be found, but the rest is amazing.
7. Octavarium
Deffinitely not the bad album, but I guess it's just not interesting enough. The title track is excellent, and so is Panic attack. The rest is just so-so. I used to like this album much more, though...
8. Falling into infinity
Could have been a much better album if it included Raise the knife and if A change of seasons was released on it, instead of being released as an EP. Some very unusual songs for DT here...
I still haven't heard WDADU, but I hope I will hear it as soon as possible.
