Suggest me some electronica albums.
« on: December 24, 2012, 03:28:57 PM »
Well, I already know Radiohead, Boards Of Canada, Bjork and Aphex Twin. can anyone just me some more electronic music? I prefer that youll give me well known stuff over obscure things because well.... I need to listen to the important ones first :p

Pendulum - Immersion

It's mostly Drum n' Bass but the album has a ton of variety.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

BT - This Binary Universe and These Hopeful Machines. TBU is more ambient, THM is more melodic/upbeat. Both are fantastic.
Royksopp - Senior
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Solarstone - Electronic Architecture Vol. 2 It's a mix, but it's goddamned fantastic.
Floex - Zorya More use of acoustic instruments, but a gorgeous, whimsical album nonetheless.
Shpongle - Tales of the Ineffable Really eclectic psytrance, it's awesome (Despite what Lonestar says)

If electroswing sounds like something you'd like you should also check out Caravan Palace's self titled. electronic swing music might sound like a strange combination but it works together so well.

And that Floex suggestion from Sigz is a very good one.

Eyefolding? That sounds painful! :lol

The most electronic thing I have on my computer is Europop by Eiffel 65. It was my first album back when I was around 5 years old. It's a pretty cool album, kind of a dark, electronic, 90's pop album. Most people know the single "blue" (da-ba-dee), but there are some other songs that are just as good, if not better. This, for example.
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

Pendulum - Immersion

It's mostly Drum n' Bass but the album has a ton of variety.
Please dont kill me for what im going to say now, its just an opinion and I respect the fact you like it:
I FORCED myself to listen to the first 5 songs...and well....
I thought it was cheesy and uninteresting, but the biggest problem with this album is that it felt completely soul-less. It even failed to entertain me - I found it boring.
All the first 5 songs I heard were "rave" songs, so I dont see the variety that you are talking about. (and btw, I never liked rave songs.)
Again, I fully respect the fact you like it, its just an opinion.

Is Untrue by Burial considered an electronica album? It's very minimalistic and the vocal style can be hard to adjust to but it's kind of fascinating. At the very least check out "Archangel" to see if it's something you may like:

The album gets kind of samey, mainly because there's 2 or 3 drum beats they have, but there are some good tracks on it.

Here are a couple from me:

All India Radio - Permanent Evolutions - If you like Boards of Canada you'll dig this band
Above & Beyond - Group Therapy - one of the EDM cd's I've ever heard
Zero 7 - Simple Things - A very chill record, lots of electronic influence. Hard to describe but something worth checking out.

I'm listening to These Hopeful Machines on Spotify right now (because This Binary Universe isn't on there) and it's really good. Kind of cheesy at times but really really catchy and there's some very beautiful stuff!

These days I have been really loving the 1995 self-titled album from Erasure. I know they're mostly known for their 80's synth-pop hits, but this album is very spacey, complex, gorgeous, and interesting. I Say I Say I Say is also fantastic.
I think my favorite electronic group is the Pet Shop Boys and a great place to start would be their albums Very, Behaviour, Nightlife, or of course a greatest hits collection.
I also highly recommend "Technique" from New Order, "Music for the Masses" from Depeche Mode, and "With Sympathy" from Ministry.
