Found an unmarked burned CD in my car and put it in. I could not figure out what the hell the music was but it turned out to be 55:12. Very nice surprise.

Definitely a solid album, although none of the songs quite live up to the opening track.

55:12 is the only Gregor Samsa album I ever hear about. Are the others worth checking out?
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Doesn't Toby Driver play some stuff on Rest? I haven't heard it though.

Rest is their only other studio album, and it's great.

Yeah, he plays some clarinet and vibraphone. Mia Matsumiya also plays violin on it.

Explosions In The Sky is pretty much the only Post Rock-like band I listen to. Some great instrumental stuff. Perfect for just sitting around and listening to music or falling asleep or whatever.  :hat
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

I can only listen to one album, The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place, in succession. :P They get kinda boring.

Yeah, I don't really listen to them for the music, just the atmosphere. I can't really make it through a whole album either when I'm not in the mood.

Eits are a bit too samey for my taste. The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is pretty awesome though, but generally their songs tend to have very similar structures and sounds.

best new Post Rock (or any Rock for that matter) band I discovered in the last year.

Forest Park

mesmerizing song/video. Great female vocals and trumpet among other things.

Sounds interesting, might check out.

On another note, the new album by And So I Watch You From Afar is really good.

I'm not really an Explosions fan either, I find them boring as well. I see a couple of you have posted Mono as being the same. While Mono hasn't really evolved their sound per say, I think they do have a pretty unique sound (especially for their time)  with the beautiful and more minimalistic orchestra. They remain one of my fave PR bands.

I enjoy Mono more, but yeah.. I feel like the last couple of albums have been fairly "samey" in sound. Hymn is an amazing album though.

If we remove Sigur Rós and GY!BE (those two are the big bands), I want to flag a bit for Mogwai. They are really cool, and one of my favorite Post-Rock bands that isn't GYBE or SR.

Zantera, if you havent heard it yet, listen to Hex by Bark Psychosis, its an absolute MASTERPIECE.
Its also the first album in history to be called "post rock". some critic in some magazine used the term "post rock" to describe the music in this album, and the name somehow sticked.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsxhfYC3nWg

1.   "The Loom"     5:16
2.   "A Street Scene"     5:36
3.   "Absent Friend"     8:20
4.   "Big Shot"     5:21
5.   "Fingerspit"     8:21
6.   "Eyes & Smiles"     8:31
7.   "Pendulum Man"     9:54

I love beautiful things.

Yeah, they are probably my two fave post rock bands too. Along with Yndi Halda, Worlds End Girlfriend, Mono and Gregor Samsa and probably more I'm forgetting :p

I'm like a ninja. I haven't talked on this thread. But I'm following this. Checking out a ton of great Post Rock albums. Love the genre.
