NECROTHREAD ZOMG

So yeah, repeated listens have reaffirmed the claim that Soldier Side has on the title "best song in all of existence and beyond". It's that good.
Soldier side is fan-fucking-tastic, and the ultimate closer to Mesmerize/Hypnotize. Really, I think it's a pretty solid send-off for the entire band. Sure, it doesn't have that trademark weirdness to it, but it's easily their most emotional song, and I can't think of a better song they could have ended with.

Question! is fucking awesome. Hell, I really can't think of a song on the entire Mesmerize/Hypnotize duo that I don't love.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Do you listen with the intro before.

No, but I haven't tried it yet, either. It just seems a little redundant, because you get the whole thing that's in the intro at the end of the regular Soldier Side as well.

Anyone else seeing them tonight at the Hollywood Bowl? I've been waiting for this for over 10 years. System has been one of my favorite bands since I was like 6 years old. My best friend and I obsessed over them when we were growing up, and we always said that we'd see them together one day. He died four years ago and we never got the chance, but I know he'll be there singing along with me tonight. I just wish he could be there in person...

I'll never get the Hypnotize appreciation.

The debut thru Mezmerize is a pretty good run but the drop off from Mez to Hyp is massive.

I hated Hypnotize instantly and I hate it more every time I hear it.

Not so long ago I listened to Mez and Hyp back to back and it's like night and day to me. ???

I might be able to address this (though musical taste is subjective, so I've got on illusions on how effective that would be) if you would bring another criticism to the table instead of "just bad" and "I hate it".

After revisiting Hypnotize recently, I've realized it is my least favorite SoAD album by far. It has a few bottom 10 SoAD tracks like Vicinity of Obscenity, U-Fig and She's Like Heroin (in my opinion of course)... but other than that, I do still enjoy the album.

Well I feel the songs are lacking in both the lyric and vocal department and that most of the songs are weak overall compared with it's Hypnotize counterpart.

Daron has way too many lead vocals whilst Serj takes a back seat much of the time.

Unlike Reload - It really does sound like Hypntize has all the weaker songs of the two albums. Mezmerize is stronger in every way for me.

Fair enough! While I feel differently, I can understand that you don't like that Daron takes over so many vocal duties.

Yeah, it's pretty equal, fifty/fifty, I'd say. Though I have to say that while I enjoy Serj's voice a little more, Daron's is great as well and the songs that he writes are always a little better than the Serj-penned ones.

In your opinion. I prefer Scars on Broadway to Elect the Dead, which has some good songs, but is largely forgettable, imho, despite Serj's amazing voice.

Well... He told Los Angeles that next time they'll be back with a new album... but for the rest of the year and then some they have European gigs, and Serj has stated it'd be years before he'd even possibly do another album, as he has solo albums planned for the next 7 years  :sadpanda:

It could all be bullshit.

I know some bands like to pretend they're not doing anything then suddenly announce a new album.

Either that or they've ditched Serj and got someone else.

I wish they would ditch Serj.
Because he seriously does not give a fuck about making a new SoaD album. Since his solo career is doing well enough he plans on just sticking with that.

On a random note, I love Radio/Video so much, but I thought about how awesome it would be to see Devin Townsend and Anneke cover that shit, it kind of gives me a vibe of Devin Townsend anyways, and if you have Devin cover Serj's parts, and Anneke cover Daron's parts, I really think it'd sound radular.

He said "Next time we play here (LA), we're gonna have a new fuckin album"

Lost in Hollywood, that's one amazing song. System of a Down's music, in spite of being so unconventional, it's incredibly catchy and easy to sing-along.

SoaD are my favourite band, and Hypnotize, which many seem to like less than other albums, kicks ungodly amounts of ass. Soldier Side is probably my favourite SoaD tune ever.
Yeah it's a great album. I feel that way about STA. I was going to list off all the tunes that I thought kicked tons of ass on it, but realized I was naming almost the entire album. :lol

While I did like Elect The Dead, it doesn't really get any play from me anymore. I liked Harakiri as well but I don't think I've listened to that since the month it came out. And Imperfect Harmonies just plain blew. Point is, Serj can do good stuff on his own but so far none of it's had anywhere near the staying power that SOAD does almost a decade after their last release.
