Gru's "Cosmogenesis" (progressive metal)
« on: December 10, 2012, 12:40:42 PM »
Anybody know about this one-man instrumental band from Poland or this album?  I literally just stumbled across it today on YouTube and I'm blown away.  I can't find much about this band anywhere online.  I want to know more about the songwriter and what else he's done.  The music is borderline orgasmic.

I've known about Gru for quite some time-- I remember one of his videos having 200,000+ views on Youtube, so he's something of an underground hit. I like most of his stuff, but I find the same problems that consistently appear with djent (yes, it's djent).
It all seems very repetitive and very crunchy, with little melodic or harmonious sound, like a wall of sound. Some of it is good, but most of it sounds extremely similar. It's good, but there isn't much diversity. But Mr. Gru is talented, he can't be faulted for that.

I discovered Gru a couple of years ago or so.  That Cosmogenesis album is crazy-good.  "Aurora" is my ringtone!  My 14-year-old son will stop listening to his dubstep to listen to Gru.  Absolutely amazing stuff.

Did they name themselves after the character in Despicable Me?

Awesome stuff, some of the best instrumental metal I've heard.

Despicable Me came out after this album was already in existence.  But when I first saw the movie, that's the first thing I thought of!!
