It's a novelty, and ultimately disposable, in the same way that MC Hammer's ridiculous song and massive trousers were, but it's a pleasant novelty, and a quality novelty, and the song's part of that. Cos people buy the song, people stay for the song - and not just a handful, but enough people for it to top international charts for weeks on end. It's not a masterpiece, it's just a catchy song that people enjoy, with a fun video and dance attached to it, but that's enough. We're still richer for it.
It's not like Rebecca Black, where it's only been shared because it's hokey rubbish, and nobody buys the song. Gangnam Style's successful. People like it.
