For College it takes me 6-12 minutes to get to where I park (which is a local church) and I then walk 8-12 minutes to my class. I do this because the parking garage costs $125 and would still take 6-10 minutes to walk anyways.

For work it takes me about 15 minutes to drive there, find a parking spot, and what not. The only downside to this one is that I work at Wal-Mart, so sometimes it's hard to find a parking spot.

My worst commute was when I was attending Community College and working at a different job. It took roughly 12-15 minutes to drive to work, in which I then drove home when I got off work around 4pm. I then would leave my house again at 6pm, head the same way as my work was, and drive to the Community College which was another 10-15 minutes past my work. In total I spent ~90 minutes a day driving. Between homework and other responsibilities I found this quite tiresome.

My office is about 23 miles from my house, I can either go up the highway which takes about 15 minutes, or take the back-roads which is more like 40 minutes.

I hate all of you

Not personally, just the fact how easy a majority of the commutes are .

It's about a 35 minute bus ride for me, but the way the bus schedule and my shifts line up it ends up being up to an hour on either side of work.

I've always included how far a workplace is before even applying for a job. I refuse to have a long commute, so I make it so I dont.

The rare times I can use one of my parents' cars, it takes about 10~13 minutes to get to the uni, which is about 3.5 miles away. On normal days, however, I have to take the bus. 50 minutes ride in the traffic, often standing.

Yes, it's not the best thing to wake up and think that in 30 minutes you will be standing in a too hot or too cold bus compressed by younger kids and bothered by the awful music they shoot themselves in their ears.   :yeahright

unfortuneatly  in my line of work  Finance back office operations the only places that currently offer jobs are Manhattan with some spread out around Northern NJ.....considering I live in Southern Central NJ I have no choice but to deal with the commute

This is a field I have been in since I was 21  (I'm now 48)

My commute is 35 minutes one way. Its a bit long but the good thing is the route I take is almost completely void of traffic so its usually a smooth stress free commute to and from work.

About 15-20 minutes/4 miles to drop my wife and daughter off, then 10 minutes/2 miles for me to get to work.

I've got a 30 minute commute to school, which isn't that bad, but the person I ride with is one of the most infuriating people I have ever know. She is a very nice person, but complains WAY too much. If anything happens that she has a problem with she takes offense like the person who was doing it has something against her, and she let's everybody know. The worst part is that if you try to say something like "I don't think they did that with you in mind," she, again, takes offense, and starts talking about how you're just being a dick or an asshole. It's a lose-lose situation.

You theoretically COULD move closer to work.  Realistically, I know of several reasons why you and others don't do that...but you could.

I actually moved further away from work in 1999  I was living in Queens at the time but didn't want my kids attended NYC schools and private schools were out of the question financially

My youngest is 13 so I figure once he is done with HS moving closer is defineatly an option

Five minutes car. :hat

I live just two miles from my workplace.

About the same here. When I got my new job 7 years ago, I looked for an apartment close to my working place. It's more or less in the middle of nowhere, but I don't have to drive long. Love it!

I live in Hong Kong. While my job is on the Hong Kong Island side, I live on the Kowloon side. Taking the subway is the "fastest" way to commute, yet it still takes nearly a full hour from my home to my office... one way!  :(

My commute to my university is just about 5-10 minutes of walking and 25 minutes or so of taking two different metros in Paris. Other than the occasional Parisian slamming into me or pushing me out of their way on the metro, I've gotten quite used to it and it's normally not bad at all. Fortunately I don't have class at 9am this semester because 8-9am is the absolute worst possible time to be on the metro from my experience. I've heard it's way worse in Japan, China, etc., but man I've had some unpleasant experiences on the metro to say the least. Public transportation seems to bring out the worst in some people.  :tdwn

Mine's currently about 20 miles or so. 25-45 minutes depending on traffic. Usually about 30.

I'm starting a new job in a couple of week and it'll only be 6 miles. Looking forward to that.

I walk across the street from the dorms and then to class. Usually no more than five minutes to any one point on campus.
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

Not in school right now but when I was, it was a five-minute drive, maybe 20 walking. One thing I like about living in the city.

I live 40 miles away from my work so my commute is about 48 minutes to an hour and a half depending on traffic, snow, etc.

Door to Door  2 hours 15 minutes each way   leave my house at 4:30 am get to the office at 6:45 am

Drive 7 miles to the train station

Get on train from Central NJ to Midtown Manhattan  90+ minutes on train

Get off train get on subway 10-15 on the train + time spent waiting

Get of subway walk 4 blocks to the office

going home just reverse the above
Sucks....

It depends on the traffic, obviously.  But on my way TO work, if I leave by 6:45am, I can usually make it in about 40 minutes, but if I leave a few minutes after that, I'm lucky to make it to the office by 8:00.
The way home (I take a different route, since practically every major thoroughfare in between Fort Worth and Dallas have MASSIVE construction projects going on) is usually about an hour.

But then again, there are days I am traversing the entire D/FW metroplex, which can add up to 200-250 miles a day.  I try not to do that too often.

Is 100,000+ miles in just under 3 years about average for some of ya'll in outside sales?
