Wow, many people discovered Anathema that new?! What a loss for your earlier years and what a gain for the rest of your lives.

ohhhhh man discovering some of those bands is an amazing experience. I remember when I first got into Fair to Midland, such a fascinating time.

No kidding, many of these bands have blown me away. I've missed so much over the years... Unfortunately over the last decade I either didn't have the time or the funds to explore too much beyond my core group of fav bands. That changed this year so I'm catching up for lost time. I still got a lot more to go.

Forgot to mention, last night I swung by Zia records and picked up Ice Age - Liberation. Another little gem of a band I found this year.

Yes, I've been checking out Enslaved recently. What's a good starting album? I need one to focus on instead of jumping all over the place.

Have you heard Borknagar? Sort of a BM supergroup, and really excellent!
My first was Axioma Ethica Odini, but Vertebrae, Riitiir, Isa, and Below the Lights are great starting points if you don't want to get into their old school Black Metal days yet, which are also chock full of good albums.  They're truly a band whose discography I completely love, along with Nachtmystium  :D

I have indeed heard Borknagar, a excellent band as well. If you haven't heard Darkthrone you should check dem boiz out.  Amazing band, gone from Black Metal to whatever the fuck they want in recent years, but still fantastic Black Metal band.
Sweet, thanks!  :D I'm more of a fan of Black Metal with some Melodic/Folk influences anyway, so I'll check out Enslaved's later stuff first.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

Pepe Deluxe. I enjoy their last 3 records, and Queen of the Wave I imagine will be one of those albums I'm still listening to regularly many years from now.

Myrath, Kamelot, Haken and Seventh Wonder. I think that's all really, I haven't been looking for new music this year. I have like 15-20k songs in my collection already, so I just don't have the time to get into much more now. Just needed a few melodic metal bands to my otherwise funky collection.

I have NO idea! I should have jumped on the train when The Difference Machine when they had Nick D'Virgilio first appear on drums with the band, as well as Dave Meros and Pete Trewavas on bass. That should've been a huge red flag for me, especially now that I've gotten into them, I really like TDM!

Kelly McFarling, The 88, Interpol, The Kooks and Bloc Party.

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Fort Lean

These guys were the opener when I went to see Bear Hands and Surfer Blood a few months ago, and they absolutely killed it. If it weren't for Bear Hands, they probably would have been my favorite part of the show. They're not doing anything groundbreaking, just playing straight up rock and roll, but they're doing it right, and it leads to some pretty catchy songs. They don't have much recorded as of yet, but from what they do have they really show how good of a band they can be. The Mall and Envious are really good, as well as Beach Holiday, Perfect, and Sunsick.
prog sucks

Forward Shapes
Caravan
Haken

I searched actively this yoear for music that I like and I ended up discarding 95% of the music I downloaded and I went through more than 50 bands. I'm extremely picky and I'm not the one to say the typical "there's plenty of good music out there" because I strongly disagree. there's too little good music out there but to each their own
