Circus Maximus debut album Nine.

Fantastic disc.
look forward to their second album 12 years from now when they get back from that ski vacation

But Nine isn't Circus Maximus's first album, they have two others.

I do hope they make another album soon.

Cool idea for a thread! I have quite a few.

The Smashing Pumpkins, Mew, Nine Inch Nails, Amplifier, Faith No More, Dir En Grey, Converge, Brand New, maudlin of the Well, Mr. Bungle, Dog Fashion Disco, Polkadot Cadaver, Kayo Dot, Talk Talk, Deftones, Pink Floyd & Swans.

I would consider those to be the most important. The Smashing Pumpkins is already one of my favorite bands (in my top3 at least), and most of these are in my top50 artists/bands ever. Really awesome year for me.

i was under the impression zantera's been into amplifier and pimping that isht for eons.

Anathema
Kayo Dot
Mumford and Sons
Agalloch

They've all impressed me immensely, but Agalloch probably gets the edge among these recent diamonds.

Black Metal in general, but not any specific bands that I love...YET.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

Kvelertak  :heart
If you're warming up to Black Metal, you should check out Nachtmystium and Enslaved.

Nachtmystium is such an amazing band, they mix psychadelia, black metal, and industrial into one hellish blaze.
and Enslaved is some of the most beautiful Black Metal you'll ever hear.

Yes, I've been checking out Enslaved recently. What's a good starting album? I need one to focus on instead of jumping all over the place.

Have you heard Borknagar? Sort of a BM supergroup, and really excellent!

My first was Axioma Ethica Odini, but Vertebrae, Riitiir, Isa, and Below the Lights are great starting points if you don't want to get into their old school Black Metal days yet, which are also chock full of good albums.  They're truly a band whose discography I completely love, along with Nachtmystium  :D

I have indeed heard Borknagar, a excellent band as well. If you haven't heard Darkthrone you should check dem boiz out.  Amazing band, gone from Black Metal to whatever the fuck they want in recent years, but still fantastic Black Metal band.

Not much, since I got a new computer and all my CD's are at my parents' house. So I just listen to music every now and then, but never for very long. The only new artist I've gotten into is Eminem, and I've checked out other rap artists as well.

Haken
Circus Maximus
Work Of Art
Wintersun

I don't actively search for new/undiscovered music, it mostly comes from recommandations and when i find something that i really like i tend to ravish the hell out that particular bands/artists song or album or in some cases their total discography. I will also say that if i find an artist/band that blow me away, that particular act will basically be the only thing i will listen to for a week or two. I can be very emotional when it comes to newly discovered music. Therefore my list can be pretty small every year.

I'm happy to announce that 100% of my list comes within DTF!  :metal

Alter Bridge
Daft Punk

That is all. I rarely get into new music... my top bands of the year barring Alter Brdige have been Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and the Pineapple Thief, all of whom I've been listening to for a good few years. But an online connection got me into AB, and I had a bit of a Discovery phase over Summer which got me into Daft Punk. Maybe more next year?
Every story needs to have an ending, we might as well give up all this pretending and clear the air...
