Throwing a twist in this now:

I think most would agree that 90s Dream Theater was one awesome decade of music:

Images and Words
Awake
A Change of Seasons EP
Falling into Infinity
Scenes from a Memory

But is it the best decade of music by any band ever?  If you think so, then vote for 90s Dream Theater.  If not, vote for the other option and then list what decades by what bands you prefer.

This should be fun.

For me, 90s Dream Theater is hard to beat, but there are probably several I slightly prefer:

80s Rush
00s Porcupine Tree
And maybe another one or two

But top 5 for sure. Just not number 1.

Personally there would be plenty of other decades by other bands that would top it for me.
But 90's DT was pretty good. But yeah, not a tough choice, so went with the other option.

I voted DT, by my runners ups would be:

70's UFO
80's Iron Maiden
00's Iron Maiden
70's Alice Cooper
80's Metallica
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

60s Beatles
80s Iron Maiden
70s Led Zeppelin
80s Rush
70s Pink Floyd
00s Porcupine Tree

And then there's 90s Dream Theater, but it hardly stands a chance, thanks to Falling into infinity.

Yeah, I think there's several choices I would take first.

These two easily beat it:
70's Journey
00's Hiromi

I think these might beat it:
00's Dead Soul Tribe
70's Return to Forever
00's Winds (maybe not enough albums)

...probably more.

00s System of a Down is my favourite decade of music ever, hands down.

But, as you said Kev, 90s DT is probably in the Top 5.

70s Zeppelin
70s Rush
00s Arjen Lucassen (gotta include Ayreon and Star One)

That's it off the top of my head, and for my preferences.

80's Rush
70's Genesis
70's Yes
00's Porcupine Tree
60's Beatles

And probably a few more, but 90's DT *is* pretty good, I have to admit, but there are some band's who produced more and higher quality work in a single decade than DT was able to in the 90's.

Steely Dan, Gong, Yes and The Pineapple Thief, in that order. All '70s except TPT (2000s).  DT in the 2000s would be in my top 10, with '90s far behind.

Ha! Interesting battle.

Decades are tough because for me, a band’s best 10-year stretch might fall over different decades (Stones 68-74, Rush 76-81, LZ 69-73). I thought about the Beatles 60s, but there is a lot of hit-or-miss for me with them. Maybe 80s Maiden or 70s Floyd would be my #1.

I feel disinclined to say a band whose decade includes FII is among the best ever, and the ACoS EP is only good for the title track.

It blows a shitload of stuff away but... Images, Awake...

Gee, I dunno - extend that decade to SDOIT and it is definitely my favorite ever.

80s Rush
00s Porcupine Tree
80s Peter Gabriel
70s Pink Floyd
00s Coheed and Cambria

These were all better decades for these bands than the 90s were for DT.  Probably more.

Nope. I like 80s Maiden, 70s Rush, 70s Pink Floyd, and 80s Marillion more than I like 90s DT. But it's a close thing.

For me personally, it was 80's Judas Priest.
British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, and Defenders of the Faith.

and 80's Iron Maiden.
Killers, # of Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time.

I was nipple deep into metal back then.
Oh shit, you're right!

'70s Yes and '70s The Who(Who's Next, Quadrophenia, Who by Numbers, Who Are You)

'70s Styx ain't too shabby either, nine albums finishing off with Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, and Cornerstone, fuck what a run of albums.

There are some great decades by some great bands, but I can't think of any that can match DT's '90s run.

'70s Pink Floyd.
'00s Porcupine Tree.

90s DT deserves an honorable mention among my favorite decades of music by one band but it would not come close to "the best" for me. Just to name a few that I would rank above it... 70s Neil Young, 00s Radiohead, 00s Opeth, 70s Zeppelin, 80s Maiden, 70s Yes.

80's Priest, Maiden & Queensryche
70s & 80s Rush
80s Dio (solo/Sabbath)

But 90s Dream Theater is right up there and very impressive
