Decade Battle #5: 70s Queen vs. 90s Porcupine Tree

70s Queen vs 90s Porcupine Tree

70s Queen
Queen
Queen II
Sheer Heart Attack
A Night at the Opera
A Day at the Races
News of the World
Jazz

90s Porcupine Tree
On the Sunday of Life...
Up the Downstair
Staircase Infinities EP
The Sky Moves Sideways
Signify
Stupid Dream
(plus, a variety of other compilations that mix and match stuff released on other records...I am not listing them all)

--------

I thought this would be an interesting matchup, pitting Queen's classic decade vs. PT's less popular decade.  I love Queen, and most of those 70s records are absolute classics.  Meanwhile, I love 90s PT; Stupid Dream is a top 3 PT record for me, and Signify and The Sky Moves Sideways are both stellar as well.  However, I am gonna give the very slight edge to Queen here.

Queen. By so far it isn't funny.

I have never heard one song from any of those PT albums! :lol

Guess I will go with Queen.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

As much as I LOVE the S-albums by PT (The Sky Moves Sideways, Signify and Stupid Dream), the first two aren't that great in the grand scheme of things.

There's a higher quality throughout the 70's Queen Albums that makes them more enjoyable, and consistent. Besides, the three-album run of Night/Day/News is just stellar. The first three are great and Jazz is good as well. They're just top-notch albums and they have had a lot of hits and staying power.

Had it been the other end of PT's career, this might have been a LOT harder to decide.

The obvious option. And I'm not sure this is a fair compare for PT.

Porcupine Tree. Queen's alright but I never did manage to get particularly into them. Porcupine Tree, however, trancy, dark and atmospheric. And Signify is one of my favourites.

Queen takes this one by far. That era of PT is not the one that interests me, except for Stupid Dream

I like PT better as a band, but I still pick Queen.

That includes the only Porcupine Tree albums I like, and I dislike Queen.  ...so easy choice.  I have been listening to Queen II today, though, after a friend thought I might like that one.

 at me for being a PT fanboy and not fully using my brain while reading the 90s PT that is so clearly written and vote in a blink of a sec.  :blush

*slowly walks out in utter shame*

Because let's face it: Queen all the way (i'm sorry PT!)

Signify, Stupid Dream and Up the Downstair are among PT's best albums. The Sky Moves Sideways is fantastic as well.

This. Sky Moves Sideways and Up the Downstair are in my "big 4" of PT albums with In Absentia and Fear of a Blank Planet. I like Signify and especially Stupid Dream a lot as well. Queen has some good songs and they were obviously an important band in their era, but I'm not a fan.
